DEFINITELY NOT THE CAREER I HAD PLANNED 👷🏽‍♀️

A degree in Film & TV Production and over a decade in marketing… and somehow I ended up teaching people how to use power tools and renovate their homes! Did I waste those years?

From 16-18, we were told we had to choose what we wanted to do for the rest of our lives…my dream back then was to work for Channel 4! Turns out, you’re allowed to change your mind - multiple times! All those skills I picked up along the way are still used pretty much every day. So time most definitely NOT wasted!

If you’re at a crossroad and unsure of what comes next for you, remember, there’s no single “correct” route. Your next, or previous decision doesn’t have to be your forever one. You’re allowed to change your mind!

SAVING MY ISLAND LIGHTS WITH ONE SPRAY 😍

Honestly, I’d resigned myself to the belief my frosted glass island lights were ruined because previous attempts to clean them literally did nothing. I thought the dust/grease had permanently removed the frostiness of the glass at the top. I tried multiple sprays, dish soaps, glass cleaners and although it got “cleaned” they forever just looked ombré, and I had to accept that 🥲

BUT after using on a few projects around the house as part of the prep, I thought I’d give it a go.. I mean what was the harm?!

It literally MELTED OFF in front of my eyes 😍

A quick spray, rinse and dry with a tea towel and they look brand-spanking-new!

I’ve also used it to get paint off my LVT, prep old furniture for upcycling and even to get stains off my garden furniture.

TICKING OFF THE JOBS I KEEP PUTTING OFF ☑️

ad I will happily tear down walls, insulate a loft during a heatwave and tackle our 200ft jungle of a garden… but quick jobs like changing a tap, putting up blinds and resealing the front door? Straight to the bottom of the list - why am I like this? It literally took me 3 years to install working smoke alarms in the house... how bad is that?! Since then, I’m really trying to get better at prioritising the smaller jobs. That way, I can work through my lists much faster, so it feels like I’ve achieved more too!

Earlier this year, my energy supplier contacted me about switching out my smart meter, and I was determined not to put off another small-but-important job. Thankfully, arranging it was quick and simple, and the installation was completed at no extra cost in under an hour.

This ensures you can continue benefiting from accurate bills and constant usage monitoring. Mine now gives me minute-by-minute usage information, which is incredibly useful when I’m trying to measure whether all these energy-efficiency improvements are actually making a difference!

So, if your energy supplier contacts you about upgrading your smart meter, don’t leave it sitting on the to-do list. Get it booked in as soon as you can.

MY TOP 9 TIPS FOR USING A CIRCULAR SAW

Beginner DIYer? Not sure where to start with a circular saw? Well, this one’s for you!

I realised over time, my page has gotten less about teaching and empowering beginners, and more just sharing my renovation journey and doing more advanced builds as my own skills have progressed… so I want to get back to sharing the basics, giving tool tutorials, tips and how-to’s for beginners and taking everyone back to Tool School™️ .

So to start us off, here’s 9 tips to get you started with some people’s most feared tool, to get you more familiar with it, how to use it and how to be safe when operating it.
