WHAT I WAS GIVEN vs WHAT I’M GIVING BACK 🙌
A kitchen with a failed paint job, bubbling paintwork and plenty of questions 🤔
Because when it comes to hand-painted kitchens, the finish is only as good as the preparation underneath it.
In this case, the previous paintwork had failed due to inadequate preparation and the absence of an undercoat. Over time, everyday cooking grease, fats and heat had contributed to the paint blistering, bubbling and eventually losing its bond with the surface.
So, before I could even think about picking up a paintbrush, the real work had to begin.
Two none stop days of preparation.🎧🎤🎵☕️
Sanding. Degreasing. More sanding. More degreasing. And finally, a thorough clean. ✨
Every door and unit was taken back to bare wood, creating the clean, sound surface needed to give this kitchen the fresh start it deserved. 🫶
Once the preparation was complete, the doors were lined up on my makeshift production line and given the attention they needed:
✅ Two coats of undercoat
✅ Two coats of satinwood
✅ Finished in the beautiful, timeless shade Goose Down 👌
There were actually two different styles of kitchen door hiding among the ranks, but with a consistent finish, you’d hardly notice! 🧐
Once everything was painted, each piece was carefully rehung and returned to its original position, following the diagram I’d created on dismantling day. Every detail accounted for, just as it should be.
The finishing touches? A little bells-and-whistles polish, a thorough clean, and a kitchen brought back to life. 😍
BUT HERE’S SOMETHING WORTH KNOWING…
Hand-painting a kitchen is about so much more than the colour you choose or the final coat of paint.
It’s about the preparation you don’t always see, the time invested in getting the foundations right, and the care taken at every stage of the process.
And the job doesn’t end when I pack up and leave.
Drying time and curing time are two very different things. Although the paint may feel dry to the touch today, this kitchen needs to be treated with extra care for the next 48 hours while the finish continues to harden. Full curing takes longer, so gentle handling is essential while the paint develops its durability.
Because a beautiful finish is one thing. A beautiful finish that’s been given the best possible chance to last? That’s the real goal. 🎯
So, if you’re thinking about giving your kitchen a new lease of life, please remember this:
INVEST IN SOMEONE WHO CARES ENOUGH TO DO THE JOB PROPERLY. 🫡
The transformation is in the finish, but the quality is in the preparation.
