🏛️ BIG CHANGES AHEAD FOR BOSTON’S HISTORIC FORMER POST OFFICE

The historic former Post Office on Wide Bargate, Boston, is set for essential repairs after standing vacant since 2014.

Local authorities took formal action over concerns about the condition of the Grade II listed building, with Boston Magistrates’ Court upholding the repair notice and requiring the necessary work to be carried out.

The new windows are looking great and really have given it a new lease of life.

There could also be a new future for this well-known Boston landmark.

Planning permission was previously granted to transform the 1907 building into 22 apartments, alongside commercial space on the ground floor.

It is hoped that restoring and bringing this historic building back into use will help improve the appearance of Wide Bargate and breathe new life into an important part of Boston town centre.

⚡ Major electrical upgrades are progressing at Pilgrim Hospital, Boston

Pilgrim Hospital is moving forward with a significant programme of high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical infrastructure upgrades designed to strengthen the site’s power network, improve resilience and support future clinical services.

A key part of the programme is Substation 3, where a contract worth almost £992,000 was awarded to Sudlows Limited in February 2026. The works include upgrades to the main electrical switchboards and generator infrastructure.

This sits alongside a wider programme of investment across the hospital site, including new substations, underground cabling and upgraded power distribution.

The improvements are intended to support major developments at Pilgrim Hospital, including the new Emergency Department, modern clinical facilities and the continued rollout of digital systems such as electronic patient records (EPR).

🏥 Why does this matter?

Reliable electrical infrastructure is essential for a modern hospital. It helps power operating theatres, diagnostic equipment, IT systems, emergency services, medical technology and backup systems around the clock.

The work is being delivered in phases, with different substations and infrastructure elements progressing alongside wider developments across the hospital estate.
