Halloween makes a handy reminder. By then the clocks have gone back, November is next and we're into our busy autumn and winter season.

A heated barn is only part of the drying story. The air needs somewhere to go, too.

That's why you'll see gaps around the wood and in the crates. Air moving around the logs helps moisture leave. The same principle matters in your log store at home.

Keep the rain off the top and leave a route for air around the sides.

When you're comparing firewood, look for the stated volume as well as the price. Then check the type of wood and whether delivery is included. That's a much more useful comparison than the word 'bag'.

How long do you reckon?

Even once the wood is cut, split and cleaned, freshly cut logs still need time to dry. That can take months, depending on the wood and drying conditions. All that preparation for logs you could burn in a single day.

At Barn Dried Logs, we use our own custom barn with underfloor heating to help drive out moisture as the logs dry.
