Our guest artist for the month of March is Jane Riley. Jane is a local artist based in Batheaston, where she works from her studio. She is also part of a team running an art group in Bathampton, where members meet weekly to paint and exchange ideas.

Self-taught, Jane enjoys painting a wide variety of subjects in both oils and watercolours. Her work often focuses on local landscapes and cityscapes, with an emphasis on capturing mood and atmosphere, and sometimes conveying a narrative.

Her paintings have been exhibited in the Bath Society of Artists Open Exhibitions at the Victoria Art Gallery for the past three years. In 2024, one of her paintings was selected for use on exhibition posters and in magazine publicity.

She participates annually in the Batheaston Art Trail and the Bath Open Studios exhibitions, including venues at Bath and the Royal United Hospital. She has also completed numerous private commissions.

Only a few days remain to see our exhibition of two exceptional Wiltshire-based women artists here in Bradford on Avon. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience the work of talented local makers and support artists from our region.

Although very different in style and media, both artists offer compelling and distinctive perspectives. Lizbeth Spurgeon’s evocative paintings explore the liminal space between dawn and dusk, creating calm, introspective scenes that invite quiet reflection. In contrast, Liz Watts presents exuberant and thought-provoking works in ceramic and bronze, full of energy, character, and striking presence.

Don’t miss this chance to see two contrasting bodies of work side by side — and to celebrate the creativity of artists working in and around Wiltshire.

Our March exhibition brings together the work of two very different female artists, on display until the end of the month.

Liz Watts is well known for her impactful, thought-provoking ceramics — bursting with colour and quite literally touched with gold.

Lizbeth Spurgeon, by contrast, works on large canvases, creating moody landscapes that explore the liminal space between dawn and dusk.

Both artists are based here in Wiltshire.

Come and experience their work while the exhibition is still on.

We are delighted to be showcasing the work of two Wiltshire based female artists for the month of March.

Liz Watts is an award-winning British ceramicist and sculptor whose distinctive porcelain work has earned her a strong and loyal following. Originally trained as a veterinary surgeon, she retrained in the early 1990s at l’Atelier des Beaux-Arts Henri Matisse in Creil, France, where she developed her sculptural practice and mastered traditional porcelain decoration techniques

Liz has exhibited widely across the UK, and her work is held in both private and public collections. In recognition of her contribution to contemporary ceramics, she was elected a full member of the Society of Women Artists. Her work balances delicacy and strength, technical mastery and imagination — ceramics that reward close looking and invite lasting engagement.

Lizbeth Spurgeon is a contemporary British painter whose work captures the quiet emotional resonance of everyday spaces. Working primarily in oils, she creates luminous paintings that sit between observation and memory, often focusing on light, atmosphere, and subtle human presence.

Lizbeth has exhibited in galleries across the UK and has developed a loyal following of collectors who are drawn to the emotional depth and quiet strength of her work. Each painting offers not simply an image, but an atmosphere, a space in which viewers may find their own memories reflected.

We are also hosting a Meet the Artists event on 14th March from 5pm - you are most welcome to attend.

Our guest artist this month is Westbury based artist Reza Riahi, whose work will be on display with us until 28 February.

Reza’s practice is both powerful and contemplative. Working across a striking range of scales—from expansive canvases to more intimate pieces—he explores meaning through an abstract and impressionistic lens. Shaped by his experiences in Iran and his life in England, his paintings offer a deeply personal perspective on the world, inviting viewers into a space where memory, emotion, and place intersect.

Our volunteer run gallery and gift shop in the heart of beautiful Bradford on Avon is open from 10am to 4pm every day. We showcase the work of over 40 local artists and makers.

You’re warmly invited to a Meet the Artist evening at Handmade Bradford on Avon, celebrating the work of two outstanding Wiltshire-based women artists.
Throughout March 2026, we are delighted to be exhibiting paintings by Lizbeth Surgeon and ceramics by Liz Watts. Both artists live and work in Wiltshire, and their practices are rooted in close attention to materials, process, and the pleasures of making.

Lizbeth Spurgeon is a painter whose work is characterised by a sensitive use of colour and a strong sense of composition. Her paintings develop through layered mark-making and close observation, sitting confidently between representation and abstraction and rewarding slow, attentive looking.

Liz Watts is a highly successful ceramicist with a distinctive and instantly recognisable style. Her ceramics are loved for their warmth, humour, and distinctive, quirky character, combining technical skill with a strong sense of individuality.

Join us from 5.00pm to meet Lizbeth and Liz, hear about their creative journeys, and enjoy the opportunity to talk directly with the artists about their work.
Refreshments will be provided, and all are very welcome.
