It’s that time of year again and the Knit + Stitch shows are back! Always jam packed full of inspiration and must-make products, the London show takes place this weekend at the iconic Alexandra Palace.

Can’t get to London?

Don’t worry there are also shows in Northern Ireland 12-15 November and Harrogate 19-22 November.

Even better you can get £2 off a standard single day ticket - just use the *discount code JEANETTESLOAN at the checkout.

*Code not valid on Child,  VIP, Two-day, or on Group tickets. Not valid on Saturday 10th October 2026 or Sunday 15th November 2026.

I’m making my way to Ally Pally on Thursday to catch up with friends and drink in the atmosphere. Who knows? I may even see you there.

This week as I’ve said a last goodbye to a dear friend it’s caused me to reflect on the people I’ve loved and lost. And simultaneously the people and things that bring joy (or stress) into my life. Our reliance on social media means we’re increasingly paying less and less attention to all these things while we’re encouraged to nanoscroll through an endless barrage of ‘content’.

Ironic really, given that it’s largely devoid of what encourages pause, reflection and a sense of gratitude.

So this weekend I’m taking myself offline so I can focus on what blesses my life and fills my heart.

My family, my making, my friends and of course Mister Jangalang.

Wishing you all a restful, creative and blessed weekend. 💓🧡💓🧡💓

The Kurt cowl comes in two different sizes, a long version knitted in sportweight, the other - shorter- knitted in DK. The short version features a k1, p1, sl1, p1 rib which adds interest to an otherwise plain k1, p1 rib. And its details like this that really make the difference. Don’t you think?

I first met Erika Knight when vending at a yarn event in Brighton. I was more than a little star struck to meet such an iconic designer in the flesh and can’t describe how happy I was when we hit it off straight away. That day Erika said something that has stuck with me ever since. “You know when you find your knitting tribe”. I knew then that she was part of mine.

Years later when I met Debbie Bliss at an event in London, once again I was star struck and got the same feeling. That we’d become more than friends. Yep, little old me. Friends with Erika Knight and Debbie Bliss😲🤩🤩🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

So what does all this have to do with Knit Stars? Whether it’s finding your fibre people or diagnosing Knitters Neck, magic happens when you bring together the best teachers, untapped creativity, cinematic production quality and a love of learning. And all from the comfort of your chair.

I am beyond excited that my two ridiculously talented friends are BOTH part of Knit Stars Season 11: Your Season of Genius which features 10 masterclasses plus LOTS of bonus learning content, YouTube access and patterns all with lifetime access.

From 27th Sept to 4th October you can get Season 11 for just $347 or £262, that’s just $34 or £26 per class which is incredible value. Oh and you can also choose one of two Knit Stars Single Masterclasses FREE when you join. So why learn beaded colourwork with my Need To Bead class?

Alternatively if you want all previous Knit Stars Masterclasses, why not treat yourself to a Golden Ticket? At $997 or £752 you’ll save a whopping $4173 or £3148 and you’ll get over 100 amazing classes. That’s got to be enough inspiration to work through your stash, right?!

I am deeply saddened to announce the death of my friend, knitwear and crochet designer, Carol Meldrum Carol Meldrum

Carol and I first met in the early 2000’s when we both worked as Rowan Design Consultants. Even with that first hello I remember being struck by her openness, warmth and bubbly personality.

We would later go on to work together more closely, running Edinburgh yarn store HKhandknit after the sudden death of its owner, our mutual friend and fellow Rowan DC, Julie Marchington. With Carol’s help, I built on what Julie had started, turning HKhandknit into a destination yarn shop where fibre lovers could stock up on yarns and learn at our in-person workshops; many of which were taught by Carol.

As a designer, Carol was a rare talent, designing for both hand knitting and crochet to an equally high standard. Browse through her Ravelry portfolio and you’ll see that her patterns have appeared in many well known publications; from Vogue Knitting, Simply Knitting and The Knitter to Inside Crochet and the many patterns she created for Rowan’s main magazine. And when it came to teaching, her endless patience, gentle encouragement and ever-joyful outlook on life meant she was able to touch the lives of even more people by sharing her passion for making.

I last saw Carol in 2024, not long after she’d had surgery for the brain tumours that would eventually take her life. She was very tired and more than a little frustrated at not being able to find her words. But as you can see from this picture, still found the energy to smile and light up the room. We hugged, giggled and spent a precious hour together and I’ll treasure that we had time to reconnect, especially now.

Look out for a future post that will include a link to a fundraiser in Carol’s memory.

Thank you to Carol’s husband, Andy for giving permission to share such sad news with you all.

Sending love and deepest condolences to Andy and all of Carol’s family at this very difficult time. 💔💔💔

I’m still recovering from the weekend’s unravel… a festival of yarn which means I’m taking a half day today. To some this may seem like an indulgence, but it’s not. Ageing gifts me the wisdom to know when I’ve done too much and how the rest of my week can be negatively impacted by not getting enough rest. Especially as my right index finger is still pretty swollen and sore after such a busy weekend.

So today I’ll do a little unpacking, update the website, do some writing and then enjoy the comfort of a new design.

Thank you to everyone who came along to see me at Unravel over the weekend and massive thanks to the team Farnham Maltings Craft for putting on yet another fabulous event.

Wishing you all a happy, productive and mindful week.
