11 months into my adventure and it’s been a crime that I still haven’t named my bike. I never got around to coming up with something when I first bought her back in New Zealand, but I thought hey, surely something will pop up and inspire a name in South America. Nothing really did, and then I kinda just forgot about it.

As I crossed into Costa Rica recently, as stunning as the country seemed, I only planned to blast through it in a few days since it’s an expensive place to travel. I had been told of a good beach spot on the Pacific Coast, however, so I thought I may as well go soak up some rays for a couple of days before heading to Nicaragua. That place was Sámara. What was initially only a 2 night booking, quickly escalated into 6 at the .samara. The pristine beaches, endless sunsets and great company sucked me into its alluring bubble.

Watching monkeys and lizards in the treetops, sipping cervezas on sunset, surfing endless waves and meeting the super friendly locals and backpackers definitely left a mark. Not to mention a 2 day tequila hangover that reminded me why I don’t do shots anymore 😅.

And then it dawned on me. Sámara! That’s a pretty cool name. Why don’t I knight the dark horse with that. Sámara she shall be. Bit of a rant but I feel like typing today. What do you guys think?

While I currently wait in La Paz for my new numberplate from New Zealand to arrive, I should probably do some gramming! Here’s a little throw back to Valley of the Moon, Chile. Definitely one of the craziest landscapes I’ve ever laid eyes on.

Shaped over millions of years by intense wind and water erosion, this otherworldly landscape features jagged ridges, sand dunes, and salt-crusted formations that to me, honestly look like something from the Dune films. The area was once an ancient lakebed, and the surrounding landscape is still slowly being sculpted by nature’s forces. It was a pleasure to ride through the area on the bike, especially as the sun set!

2024, it has been a pleasure 🙌. Can’t wait to see what the new year brings as my adventure in South America continues to unfold.

The last few weeks has provided some sensational scenery as I made my way up the Carretera Austral in Chile. Definitely the most amazing route I've navigated by bike on the trip so far.

Rock climbing in Piedra Parada was the best possible way I could've spent the Xmas and NY period while being away from friends and family back home. I met so many amazing people and climbed some incredible routes in a place that is truely one of a kind. it was hard to leave i can tell you!

I wish you all an epic start to your new year. Take care and make your new year's resolutions come true ✌️.

Patagonia’s mountain ranges certainly have been taking my breath away. From 3am backcountry hikes in the Torre Valley to wild camping at the toe of Fitz Roy, I have had the pleasure of witnessing ginormous spires of granite transform over the course of day and night. Every time arising from my tent or casting a gaze back over my shoulder, felt like I was constantly viewing the mountains for the first time. There’s simply no place quite like it.

In El Calafate I took a wee ride out to the Perito Moreno Glacier for a day. What an incredible sight! 30km in length, covering an area of 250km2. This ice giant definitely exceeded my expectations despite my numerous glacial experiences over the years. The viewing walkways get you super close too.

For the evening, I rode further out to another peninsula in the area for an exceptional evening of wild camping. Without another soul in sight, a hearty camp meal was enjoyed as I watched the sun sink into the Cerro Pietrobelli mountain range.

Note that I had to move my tent due the the ever amplifying Patagonian breeze 😂.

It’s finally time! After 2 years of saving and prepping, I’m officially on the way to South America to begin my 12 month motorcycle adventure.

Argentina is my first destination where I’ll head down the east coast to Ushuaia at the bottom of SA. Then, I’ll be making the long journey north with a goal of reaching the USA. It all still hasn’t really set in, but I guess that’ll change as soon as I step foot off the plane 😅.

If you’re interested in following my journey on my DR650, follow me on my YouTube channel . I’ll be posting regular videos of the adventure!

Over the past 12 months, I've been chipping away at a film project which is finally all done and dusted 🎬.

It’s called ‘Ditched the Rent. Pitched a Tent’ and covers my 6-week solo moto-camping trip around the South Island that I embarked on in December 2022.

It's an hour-long movie that encompasses the amazing scenery and adventures on offer in this stunning country that I can proudly call home.

If you have some time to give it a watch and lend some thoughts, that'd be most appreciated. Hope you enjoy!
