This feels quite scary to admit…

and please bear with me here because vulnerability isn’t really my thing! 😅

My home renovation has come to an almighty halt. It has done for the past 18 months if I’m being totally honest, apart from some small work on our hallways this summer. I’m desperately trying not to beat myself up about it, but it really frickin’ sucks. 🤣

Behind the scenes, we’ve had some unexpected issues arise that have cost us time and money (and a LOT of mental energy). I feel like we started off ‘all guns blazing’ and now we’re stuck in the position of not knowing what to tackle next in case any other issues crop up…

But the real stinker is that because I work in interiors, for the last year this has made me feel like I’ve failed, which I’m learning (slowly) is absolutely not true. Life gets in the way. Costs have gone up. Industries have changed. My time has become more limited. This is all really normal stuff and I shouldn’t have let it get me down as much as it did.

I know I’ve grown a really loyal and supportive community on here, sharing my expertise and tips for (crikey!) nearly 8 years now… So I got in a bit of a wobble about not actually having a perfect home, which made me feel like a fraud. I convinced myself that because I hadn’t finished my own house, I wasn’t qualified to talk about interiors. Which, when I actually type that out is completely bloody ridiculous. 😅

I DO have the knowledge and the expertise, I’m just also still actioning it in my own home too… and that’s totally ok! I’m finally at the point where I’m ready to stop hiding the unfinished bits because I’ve exhausted myself out trying to look ‘perfect’. So I’m done with feeling embarrassed about it.

So anyway… Here’s the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. The good, the bad and the ugly of my renovation.

I do feel like I’ve given myself a therapy session today writing this post, so now i’m going to reside with a glass of w**e in the bath and give myself a big ol’ pat on the back. 🥂
