Have you heard of Midimalism?

Somewhere between minimalism and maximalism, midimalism embraces thoughtful, curated interiors that feel warm, personal and lived-in - without feeling cluttered or overwhelming.

At Khaya Studio, this philosophy resonates strongly with my approach to design. I believe in creating homes that feel calm and timeless, while still reflecting the personality of the people who live there. Carefully chosen furniture, meaningful artwork, beautiful materials and considered layers all contribute to a home that feels balanced and authentic.

In my latest blog post, I explore what midimalism is, why it's gaining popularity, and how you can incorporate it into your own home.

When designing a bedroom, a bespoke headboard and take centre stage and make a real impression.

Often the focal point of the space, a headboard is an opportunity to introduce softness, texture and a real sense of individuality. Whether upholstered, panelled or elegantly understated, it helps to anchor the room and create that feeling of calm, considered comfort.

I’m currently drawing inspiration from these gorgeous examples - each one bringing its own character while still feeling timeless and refined.

I recently watched a documentary about microplastics and it completely stopped me in my tracks.

Like many people, I consider myself fairly health conscious. I prioritise good nutrition, movement and sustainability in my daily life. But what struck me most was how little attention we give to the invisible chemicals inside our homes.

One group of chemicals in particular stood out: PFAS.

If you’ve never heard of them, you’re not alone. Yet they are surprisingly common in modern interiors.

Hi, I’m Kate 👋🏼

I founded Khaya Studio in 2020 after a career in London designing retail and hospitality spaces across the world. Today, my focus is on residential design - something I truly love - helping clients transform their homes into spaces that feel both beautiful and deeply personal.

Every project is a collaboration, and I feel incredibly grateful to do what I do.

If you have any questions, I’d love to hear from you - feel free to send me a DM or book a discovery call via my website.

A neutral palette, softened by natural light ✨

When a bedroom is flooded with daylight, a gentle, pared-back colour scheme allows the light to take centre stage. Soft layers, subtle textures and warm neutrals come together to create a space that feels calm, restful and quietly luxurious.

Sometimes, simplicity really is the most powerful approach.

There’s something so satisfying about seeing a space completely reimagined. This project was all about bringing warmth, personality and functionality into rooms that previously felt tired and underutilised.

From considered layout changes to thoughtful material choices and colour, every detail was carefully curated to create a home that feels both beautiful and easy to live in.

Swipe to see the transformation…

The combination of warm ochre, black and touches of gold brings a quiet sophistication to this dining room.

The brief was to create a space that felt elegant yet inviting - somewhere to gather, host and enjoy long, relaxed meals. The richness of the palette adds depth and warmth, while the darker accents ground the scheme and give it a sense of balance.

A space designed as much for atmosphere as it is for living.

When people hear the term “turnkey interior design”, they often wonder what it really means. In short, a turnkey service is a comprehensive, end-to-end approach where your designer manages the entire project - from the very first concept to the final reveal.

It’s called “turnkey” because, quite literally, all you need to do is turn the key and walk into your beautifully finished home. Everything else - from space planning and sourcing to installation and styling - has been thoughtfully handled for you.

It’s often the finishing touches that truly bring a kitchen together.

Lighting, hardware, window treatments and styling all play a crucial role in shaping the overall look and feel. When these elements are thoughtfully considered and cohesive, they elevate the space from simply functional to something that feels beautifully complete.

It’s those final layers that make all the difference - subtle, but transformative.

This downstairs WC was designed to feel clean, modern and understated - but with a little unexpected moment of personality.

The client was keen to keep the overall scheme fairly neutral, so we introduced this scenic wallpaper as a playful nod to their love of international travel. A small space is often the perfect place to be a little more expressive, creating something memorable and enjoyable in an otherwise functional room.
