I spent Worldwide Knit in Public day yesterday knitting a second cardigan sample in my lovely John Arbon Textiles Seafarer yarns that I picked up at the mill open weekend.

And I was in a field, so very much in public.

Why a field? Well, I was camping with my boys and loads of families from their school.

Which also explains why I’m posting this a day late, because I then got distracted by chatting and fire making and trying to chase feral children to bed.

Anyway. The yarn is lovely and the kids were all kind of fascinated to see a real human person doing real human knitting.

Just wait til they see the finished cardigan.

Summer knitting is all about the fibre choice.

Seriously. It’s the difference between melting into a gross puddle and being lovely and cool.

Because it’s never too warm for knitwear, but yes, it can be too warm for some yarns (Lettlopi, I’m looking at you).

So here’s a little reel with some summer knitting fibres in action.

We’ve got Ruegen from issue 11 in a wool/cotton blend.

Then there’s a few of my own designs - the Meredith tee in a pure cotton, the Day Off Badge tee in pure linen, and Matilda in pure silk.

All will be absolutely bloomin’ perfect for the mad heatwave we’re having in Britain.

And if you fancy any of my patterns featured here, they’re all half price til the end of the month.

New Sweater School at on sale now!

What’s Sweater School, you ask? Why, it’s a lovely supportive knitting course where I help you knit a garment that you’ll actually want to wear.

You bring the pattern, yarn, and needles, and I bring the expertise to make your project so very much better than you think it’ll be.

We’ll talk sizing, reading the pattern, all the skills you need, and plenty more. Basically, anything that comes up in the knitting we’ll deal with.

And you might get a few bad date stories as well, if I’m being totally honest.

Want more details or to book? Comment below and I’ll sort you right out 👇

Just joined this new design in the round and much as I love the look of all the purl stitches in that texture I very much do not love the experience of so much purling.

I know it’s an absolute knitter cliche to hate purling, and I’m not that bad - I’m largely purling neutral.

But when there’s absolutely loads of it I find it can send my wrists towards RSI city, and I absolutely cannot be doing with that.

So instead I’m writing this one up to be worked inside out. You get the lovely texture, and way fewer of those pesky purl stitches.

Also: this design needs a name. It’s going to have dropped shoulder tee and long sleeved options to make it a bit of a year round wonder.

Any thoughts?

Knitting, but make it colourful.

If you fancy your own colourful knitting, I’ve just set up a 50% off pattern sale until the end of the month to celebrate the fact that I’ve remembered I run a knitting business.

No codes or any of that faff needed, which makes it gloriously easy to get started on your own colourful knitting.

This T-shirt here is Meredith knitted in pure silk, and it actually got complimented on a dance floor last night.

There’s no pattern for the cardi, but maybe I’ll make one? I do run a knitting business after all…

Why hello there!

I’m fully aware that I accidentally disappeared from this account a bit recently; between moving house and starting a new course and general life I’ve just a little bit lost the plot.

But my boys and I are (mostly) settled in our new place now, and I’ve been missing my knitting chat and knitting friends.

So I got one of those knitting friends (the lovely who I taught to knit way back when) to try and get some photos of me in my Meredith tee (pattern is in all the usual places) while we were out this evening.

Seems I’ve not learnt how to pose while I was away.

Still, how the devil are you all? What have I missed? And any tips for keeping your eyes open in photos?!

I’m trying very hard to summon spring with my latest knit. Or at least maybe just a day without rain? That’d do.

Just some weather where I can wear this textured tee, please. That’d be nice.

I’m knitting it in BioBalance, which is a wool/cotton mix. Making it perfect for spring/summer.

In theory. If the rain ever stops.

Please stop please? Thank you.

To celebrate the end of the LONGEST JANUARY OF ALL TIME I’ve put all my knitting patterns on sale this weekend.

They’re all half off - as is my online course - without any code needed.

Because good lord, we could all do with a little bit of cheer, couldn’t we?

The discount is running til the end of Feb 2nd, so you’ve got a couple of days to take advantage.

One of my favourite recent makes is this little waistcoat, made from just over 200g of yarn I spun from lovely fibre.

It’s an entirely improvised thing - and very rustic - which just makes it all the more joyful to me.

Having knitting as your job is usually great, but sometimes it can get a bit burnout-y when you’re always trying to think how you’ll turn whatever you’re knitting into content, or a pattern, or monetise it in some way.

There was none of that here - just some delightful making it up as I went along.

And now every time I wear it I feel a bit like a pirate, which is only ever a win in my book.

All knitting patterns half price for the rest of the year!

I was going to do my classic pattern advent sale this year, but honestly? I’m just too tired.

So instead, everything is half price. No code needed. Just to be nice.

Here’s to a festive season full of sitting and knitting!
