I didn’t share this at the time but when I first started out last year a man advised me to “just be a mum”, delete social media and seek “higher rewards” rather than start my interior design business. Which is funny because I was already a mum. I just also had a career I loved, years of experience behind me and a quiet feeling that maybe I didn’t have to choose one life over the other. So I started my interior design studio. With a 1, 2 and 12 year old at the time. Around nap times, school runs, client calls, site visits, presentations, supplier emails, late nights… the lot. Interior design often crosses into a very male-dominated world. Building sites, joinery meetings, trades, installs. And it’s made me appreciate the good trades even more. The trades who respect what I do, listen properly, problem solve with me and make the whole process better for my clients. I feel very lucky to be building a business with people like that around me. And now I get to do work I love, create homes for people I genuinely ❤️ working with and show my children that being a mum doesn’t mean you just have to stop everything else. Anyway I didn’t take the advice. I kept the children 😝 I started the business. And the higher rewards seem to be going alright.
