DIY vs. PROFESSIONAL

There’s plenty of reasons to hire a professional.

➡️ Saves you time (and time is money right? 😅)
➡️ High standard. Skills honed over years to create your ideal home
➡️ All the right tools.. and knows how to use them

Don’t skip these steps 👇

1️⃣ Proper sand, so many walls have layers of old paint, dirt, grime, etc that need to come off for a proper finish
2️⃣ Remove the sockets, quick thing to do, big impact
3️⃣ Different protection works better for different projects. Sometimes board is best, sometimes you need a dust sheet, just make sure you’re covering the home properly
4️⃣ There are always new products hitting the shelves. Some aren’t necessary but others are game changers

Skirting boards frame a room

If the lines aren’t clean, the room will feel off!

Attention to details make all the difference

UPVC & composite doors — the key steps

1️⃣ Clean.
Start with a proper degrease. Make sure it’s rinsed off with clean water afterwards. I tend to use this method for internals — externals usually need something a bit stronger.
2️⃣ Scuff.
For composite, a very fine paper works well — 320 grit or higher.
For UPVC, I’d always recommend a red Scotch-Brite pad.
3️⃣ Choose your paint carefully.
There are some good multi-surface paints available now that will adhere to both materials, but not all perform the same.
4️⃣ Scratch test.
This is the most important step. If this fails, the whole job fails.
It’s a simple test to check adhesion before committing to another coat. Always do it somewhere discreet — behind the letterbox is usually ideal.
5️⃣ Paint again.
Once you know it’s bonded properly, you’re good to continue.

Every door is different. Some have been painted before, some suit a factory-style respray better. But as a general guide for a personal project, these steps will keep you out of trouble.

10 seconds to save a lot of hassle

A lot of new homes have these kind of sockets, here’s a handy tip for popping them out so you can get behind them.

I did this so I could wallpaper behind, but you might use this to paint, fill, replace etc.
