OZZY UPDATE
Huge change of plan for this boy after a pre-op consultation yesterday. They have now advised that full hip replacements are probably not the best option for him as his specific case carries a lot of risks and they cant guarantee success. This would mean a lot of distress for him and at almost £10,000 per hip we are not willing to take that risk.
So! We are going to go forward with a much less invasive surgery. He will only need one operation instead of two as they can do both hips at the same time. It will be 2 weeks crate rest instead of 6 and it will be a quatre of the price. He wont have full mobility but he will be pain free, he'll be able to walk, run, jump short distances, climb stairs - everything he requires as a house cat. He will then have physio and I will work with him to build up the muscles in his back legs.
I have worried myself sick about these hip replacements and how he will cope with the recovery so to be honest I'm quite relieved. This new plan will hopefully be much better for all of us. He is having the surgery on Tuesday and he's spent the last week practically living in the crate of his own free will so I couldn't ask for more 🥰
I have taken some time off to look after him post-op but I will still be replying to messages etc and will do an update to let everyone know how things go
