Artist, Illustrator and quiet emotional world builder. My work lives somewhere between pattern, memory and feeling. I use colour and drawing as a way to slow things down and make sense of the world when it feels too loud. I came to art through necessity. After years of living with undiagnosed CPTSD, drawing became a calm place i could return to again and again. What began as a private way to cope

slowly grew into something i could share. Today my work moves across illustration, pattern and storytelling. Each piece is made gently and with intention. I think of it less as decoration and more as atmosphere. Something to live with rather than simply look at. Freda Lilly is a soft space for sensitive people. For thoughtful interiors. New essay this morning.

There is a buddleia at the end of my garden that I did not plant and have never looked after, and this summer I sat and watched it properly. Peacocks, tortoiseshells, a few cabbage whites and one very self important bee. Buddleia Beauty came straight off that bush.

What struck me was that none of them stayed. They land, they feed and they go, and the bush just stands there being worth landing on.

So the essay is about letting people go, about the quiet that comes after, and about the fact that buddleia also happens to be the plant that grows in the gap where nothing else will. I found that unreasonably comforting.

The gym at the top, me in the middle, a half finished baby blanket at the bottom. One thing that is entirely for me, one thing that is entirely for somebody else, and me in the middle deciding the ratio.

I spent a lot of years where the ratio was not really a choice. Now it is, and it took me an embarrassingly long time to work out that choosing myself sometimes is not selfishness, it is maintenance.

Something a bit different from me today.

Express Voyage is a graffitied train carriage, mirrored down the middle so it repeats into a corridor. There are cherries, a YOLO, someone's initials scratched into a panel, a smashed window and litter left on the seats. It is the least cosy thing I have ever drawn and I loved every minute of it.

It would be dreadful as curtains. As a puzzle it is exactly right, because a game pattern has to reward being stared at, which is the opposite of what a wallpaper has to do.

I have entered Hortensiahagen into the Spoonflower hydrangea challenge.

It is the hydrangea at the point where it has started to go over, all dusty teal and clay pink with the cabbage whites still coming through, and it sits inside my Hulderskogen collection. Drawn by hand, which took a lot longer than I will admit to in public.

The challenge is voted for by people rather than picked by a panel, so a vote genuinely counts. Voting closes on Tuesday the 8th and you do need to be signed into Spoonflower to do it, which is the annoying bit, but it takes a minute and it means a lot.

I grew up in a pub, which means work and family were never in separate buildings, never mind separate boxes. Nobody said work life balance because the idea would have made no sense to anybody.

I have written about that this morning. About why balance is the wrong picture, what it actually costs to give your family a free pass to your working day, and the pattern that came out of thinking about it.

It is called Her Tapestry, and it is women doing entirely unremarkable things. Pushing trolleys. Mopping floors. A grandmother with knitting spilling over her lap. A girl holding a doll, practising.

Because a life is not made of highlights. It is made of the ordinary business of keeping people going, and almost none of it ever gets photographed.
