Michael Thomas is a contemporary British artist renowned for his distinct gothic, surreal, and anthropomorphic paintings. Born in Leicester in 1965, he spent over 25 years as a successful book jacket artist before transitioning to focus entirely on his own quirky fine art.
His work seamlessly blends animals with fashion history, portraying wildlife in elegant historical attire.
Inspired by classical masters Pieter Bruegel, Hieronymus Bosch and Francisco Goya his realist-surrealist pieces carry a dark, aged and distinctly Gothic feel.
He frequently paints with acrylics on fine canvas surfaces he self-makes by fixing cotton directly to paper before priming it or paints directly on to wood.
