Let’s talk about wee 🚽💛
The “just in case” wee before leaving the house. Knowing every loo in town. Sneezing and crossing your legs at the same time. Welcome to your 40s 😅
As oestrogen drops in perimenopause and beyond, UTIs (urinary tract infections) get more common. Most of us know the signs:
🔥 Burning or stinging when you wee
🏃♀️ Needing to go often and urgently
☁️ Cloudy, smelly or bloody wee
😣 Pain low in your tummy
But here’s the surprise 👀
A UTI isn’t always “just” a UTI. Left alone, it can travel up to your kidneys.
⚠️ Get help today (GP or NHS 111) if you have a high temperature or shivers, pain in your back or side, or feel sick.
🚨 Call 999 if you’re confused, your skin is blotchy, blue or very pale, or you’re struggling to breathe. These can be signs of sepsis.
The good news: in England, pharmacists can treat many UTIs for women aged 16 to 64 without a GP appointment. And if they keep coming back, ask your GP about prevention.
