Happy Sunday! Time for your weekly chapter of Lady Quackingdowns society papers! Grab a cuppa and take a seat it’s a lengthy one 🤣
THE QUACKINGTON SOCIETY PAPERS 🪶
Chapter Three: Flashing Feathers, Fabulous Bosoms & The Great Mudslide Scandal
Dearest Gentle Readers,
One trusts you have recovered from the previous edition of these society papers, for I bring you news that has sent the entire Ton into a positively uncontrollable flurry of feathers!
Romance has blossomed, portraits have been taken, construction has progressed, and one particularly enormous hound has once again tested the limits of acceptable dinner-table behaviour.
Indeed, dear readers, Quackington has never been so entertaining.
So, do settle yourselves comfortably, fluff those feathers and prepare for the latest dispatches from behind the coop door.
For Lady Quackingdown has been watching EVERYTHING. 👀
📸 THE MAYFAIR PHOTOGRAPHER & THE MOST EXQUISITE FEATHERS IN THE LAND!
The long-awaited arrival of the Mayfair Photographer has finally occurred, and the consequences were nothing short of extraordinary.
The entire Ton descended into a frenzy of excitement!
Feathers were fluffed, necks were stretched, beaks were tilted, and every lady and gentleman attempted to present themselves as the very pinnacle of avian perfection.
The difficulty, naturally, was determining one’s best side when EVERY SIDE IS BEAUTIFUL.
How is one expected to choose between a magnificent left profile, a breathtaking right profile and a rear view that has been described by one particularly excitable admirer as a triumph of tail feathers?
An impossible task!
Yet, despite the competition, one lady emerged as the undisputed star of the photographic proceedings.
LADY TALLULAH!
Oh, my dear readers, where does one even begin?
Lady Tallulah arrived with her usual confidence and a bosom of such extraordinary prominence that the poor photographer appeared quite unable to direct the lens elsewhere.
Some sights simply demand to be immortalised for posterity.
Whether Lady Tallulah deliberately showcased her considerable assets or whether nature herself had simply bestowed upon her a most generous figure remains a matter of heated debate throughout the estate.
Whatever the truth, this author suspects her portrait shall be the most eagerly anticipated image in the forthcoming Quackington Fayre News Sheets.
A star is born, dear readers. And she has rather a lot going on up front!
💃 LADY JASMINE’S PHOTOGRAPHIC DISASTER!
Alas, not every lady conducted herself with the grace and composure expected of the Ton.
Lady Jasmine, it appears, became so overwhelmed by the excitement of the occasion that she quite forgot her decorum.
Instructions were given.
Poses were suggested.
The photographer requested stillness.
And Lady Jasmine responded with what can only be described as unbridled enthusiasm and a complete disregard for professional photography.
The resulting images were reportedly a collection of blurred wings, questionable angles and movements so vigorous that one might have mistaken the proceedings for a particularly spirited ballroom dance.
One can only imagine the photographer’s despair.
“Please, Lady Jasmine, hold that pose!”
Too late.
“Perhaps a gentle turn of the head?”
A flurry of feathers!
“Madam, I beg you to remain still!”
An action shot worthy of the Royal Duck Derby!
But before we condemn our dear Lady Jasmine, we must consider the circumstances.
For this lady has recently experienced a most remarkable development in her romantic affairs…
❤️ A LOVE STORY REKINDLED: ALADDIN’S WORM OF DEVOTION!
It seems that the distinguished Dr Featherington’s counselling sessions have yielded astonishing results.
Following last week’s marital uncertainty, Aladdin has apparently seen the error of his ways and is determined to restore himself to favour in the eyes of his beloved Jasmine.
And how, you ask, does a gentleman of Quackington demonstrate his devotion?
Flowers?
Jewellery?
A handwritten declaration of eternal affection?
Certainly not!
WORMS, DEAREST READERS. WORMS!
Aladdin has reportedly presented Lady Jasmine with the biggest worm in the land every single day this week.
Yes, EVERY DAY.
A commitment to romance that would make even the most sentimental members of the Ton reach for their handkerchiefs.
But the tale does not end there.
Our devoted gentleman has been observed enthusiastically searching the grounds, digging through the mud and acquiring such impressive quantities of muck upon his breeches that one wonders whether he has been courting Jasmine or attempting to excavate an entire underground railway.
The elusive prize is pursued with the determination of a gentleman who knows that his marriage depends upon the quality of his invertebrate offerings.
And Lady Jasmine?
Well, dear readers, perhaps we can now understand her photographic exuberance.
A lady who receives daily worm deliveries from a reformed romantic is naturally going to be rather excitable.
Love is in the air at Quackington — and apparently, so is the smell of damp earth.
🏰 BREAKING NEWS FROM THE BARN: THE HINGES HAVE ARRIVED!
Hold on to your bonnets, dear readers, for I bring you a development of such significance that the entire estate may soon require a celebratory ball.
THE HINGES HAVE ARRIVED!
Yes, you read that correctly.
After weeks of anticipation, construction delays and the Lord of the Manor huffing and puffing like a gentleman who has misplaced his favourite waistcoat, the long-awaited hinges have finally made their grand entrance.
One can scarcely contain one’s excitement.
Doors may soon hang where doors were always intended to hang!
The Lord and Lady of the Manor have been tirelessly painting the architectural masterpiece in preparation for the grand opening and the flock’s impending relocation into their new quarters.
There is painting.
There is preparation.
There is the occasional weary sigh from the Lord of the Manor.
And there are several ducks who have appointed themselves building inspectors despite possessing absolutely no qualifications beyond an ability to stand in the way.
The new residence is drawing ever closer to completion, and the Ton is positively quivering with anticipation.
Will the doors swing beautifully?
Will the paint dry before the flock arrives?
Will the ducks behave themselves during the grand move?
I fear the final question is the least likely to have a satisfactory answer.
🎃 CHRISTMAS, HALLOWEEN & BIRTHDAY BALLS — THE LADY OF THE MANOR HAS LOST HER FEATHERS!
One might reasonably assume that planning a Halloween ball would be sufficient work for any respectable lady.
Not our Lady of the Manor!
No, dear readers, she has decided that a single celebration is simply not enough to satisfy her ambitions.
She is currently planning the Young Master’s Halloween festivities, his birthday celebrations AND the Christmas merriments.
Three separate occasions!
Three opportunities for extravagance!
Three reasons for the household to descend into an organisational frenzy!
The Manor has become a hive of activity, with delicious smells drifting from the kitchen as the Lady of the House attempts to prepare exquisite dishes worthy of the fairest lords and ladies of the Ton.
One can only imagine the culinary masterpieces being conjured behind those doors.
Will there be seasonal delights?
Will Christmas treats rival the finest feasts of Mayfair?
Will the Young Master receive a birthday celebration so magnificent that the neighbouring villages shall speak of it for generations?
And, most importantly, will the ducks be invited?
For I must point out that a ball without the participation of Quackington’s finest feathered residents would be an unforgivable breach of etiquette.
We have costumes to consider, treats to inspect and an entire flock capable of creating more chaos than a ballroom full of tipsy aristocrats.
We shall be watching developments very closely.
🎃 Gentle Readers, we require your expertise!
What Halloween costume should the ducks wear for Duckoween?
And what dish MUST appear on the Manor’s Christmas menu?
Please share your suggestions below. The Lady of the Manor may be planning the festivities, but Lady Quackingdown shall be overseeing the important business of duck entertainment!

🐕 LADY NICOLA OF MABELDOWN ARRIVES — AND SHE HAS BROUGHT A BEAST!
This weekend, the estate shall have the pleasure of welcoming a much-loved visitor: the Lord of the Manor’s sister, Lady Nicola of Mabeldown.
Her arrival is always a cause for delight among the flock.
Her travelling companion, however, is another matter entirely.
For Lady Nicola is accompanied by a hound of such extraordinary proportions that several members of the Ton have questioned whether it is, in fact, a bear in disguise.
The creature is ENORMOUS.
A towering beast.
A furry mountain.
A canine of such stature that one might reasonably expect it to arrive with its own carriage and a personal footman.
Fortunately, the giant hound has thus far caused the ducks no trouble whatsoever.
It appears content to coexist peacefully with the feathered residents, which is most reassuring given that some of our ladies are rather particular about who is permitted to approach their ponds.
There is, however, one small matter of concern.
TABLE MANNERS.
When it comes to feasting, this hound apparently displays all the refinement of a hungry gentleman who has been informed that the kitchen is closing in thirty seconds.
One hears that the spectacle is not for the faint-hearted.
Thankfully, the enormous guest retires to the servants’ quarters to sleep, leaving the main estate to its rightful residents.
The ducks are most grateful for this arrangement.
A lady must have her beauty sleep without the snores of a creature the size of a small carriage rattling the windows.
🦆 THE NAUGHTY BOYS: A SURPRISING RETURN TO RESPECTABILITY!
In a development that has left several members of polite society pleasantly astonished, the notorious trio of gentlemen — Duckly, Mufasa and Rafiki — have continued their successful reintegration into the main flock.
Following their earlier period of exile to the smaller quarters for rather excessive romantic enthusiasm, the gentlemen appear to have discovered the virtues of restraint.
There has been no major scandal.
No dramatic midnight escapades.
No reports of excessive visits to the ladies of the night.
No urgent summons for the Lord of the Manor to intervene.
Indeed, their behaviour has been so remarkably unremarkable that this author is almost suspicious.
Have the boys genuinely reformed?
Have they finally accepted that respectable society requires a certain degree of decorum?
Or are they simply waiting for the perfect opportunity to surprise us all?
I shall not be fooled by a few days of good behaviour, gentlemen.
Lady Quackingdown has a long memory and an excellent network of informants.
We shall be watching you!
🌧️ THE GREAT MUDSLIDE SCANDAL OF QUACKINGTON!
And now, dear readers, we arrive at the week’s only true controversy.
One might have expected romantic intrigue, questionable courtship rituals or the arrival of the enormous hound to dominate the headlines.
But no.
Nature herself has intervened.
Following extraordinarily heavy rainfall, a most unfortunate mudslide has left the grounds in a state of considerable disarray.
The mud!
The mess!
The sheer indignity of it all!
Feathers have been ruffled, feet have become thoroughly muddied, and several members of the Ton have been forced to reconsider their carefully curated appearances.
One cannot be expected to maintain the standards of Mayfair when the grounds resemble a particularly ambitious chocolate pudding.
And yet, the flock must persevere.
The ladies are determined to remain suitably clean, elegant and presentable, despite living in an environment where a single misplaced step can undo an entire morning’s preening.
The Lady of the Manor may have her work cut out for her.
The ponds need attention, the grounds require inspection and the ducks are demanding that someone take responsibility for the weather.
I have advised the flock that complaints should be directed to the appropriate celestial authorities.
Though, between ourselves, I suspect the sun will be far more cooperative than the Town Council.
🪶 LADY QUACKINGDOWN’S FINAL DISPATCH
And so, dear readers, another extraordinary week draws to a close in the ever-eventful town of Quackington.
The Mayfair Photographer has captured our finest features — and possibly a few blurred ones.
Lady Tallulah has emerged as a photographic sensation.
Lady Jasmine is enjoying the fruits of Aladdin’s worm-filled devotion.
The barn hinges have arrived, bringing the grand opening tantalisingly closer.
The Lady of the Manor is preparing celebrations on a scale that would exhaust the Royal Household.
Lady Nicola is bringing her enormous hound to visit.
Duckly, Mufasa and Rafiki are behaving themselves suspiciously well.
And the weather has conspired to turn the grounds into a muddy catastrophe.
One must ask: WHAT ON EARTH WILL HAPPEN NEXT?
But I cannot close this week’s papers without requesting your valuable contributions to the society pages.
