Trudie is still up there with the favourite autumnal wreaths.

She is also one of the last autumn beauties to leave the workshop this season. Deep burgundy peonies, soft apricot roses, velvet pumpkins, pine cones, hops and a flash of fiery orange pincushion protea, all tucked in with glittery copper leaves and berry sprays. She’s a proper celebration of everything we love about autumn.

She’s also a little bit of a goodbye. We’re wrapping up our Halloween wreaths next week and turning our attention to Christmas orders, so the workbench is about to get very sparkly. 🎄
Trudie in her larger size is ready to find her forever front door, and if you’d like a wreath of your own for the festive season, now’s the time to get your order in before the diary fills up.

The Wreath makers plans.

She had bought the blue too impulsively, six bundles of it, mainly because she loves blue and this was the color of dusk right before the stars come out. It lay still coiled in its plastic wrapper like sleeping snakes which she hates so she never opened it till tonight.
She hadn’t meant to keep it in the kitchen either but it never made its way to the workshop.
So it lay there for a few weeks, hooked over the edge of the island, cascading down toward the tile like something growing out of the countertop itself, and fitting in quite prettily
She dangled it a few times once she unwrapped it, just to see how it flowed and she thought of other things it could become. Lots of Ideas jumping out of her head, she’d already changed her mind three times. That was the good part. The blue could wait a little longer, hanging there like a held breath, until she was sure what she would make.

Should it be in a mantle piece or console arrangement, a wreath or something else completely.

Time will tell & suggestions welcome.

The Bow She Kept Retying

She'd made a hundred wreaths by now, but this one wouldn't let her stop. Every time she stood back to look, really look, the way you look at something before you decide it's finished, her eye caught on some small thing that hadn't landed right yet. A rose turned the wrong way. A gap where the willow base showed through too plainly.
So she kept going. Maple leaves in burnt orange, because autumn without them felt unfinished. A cluster of blackberries tucked in low, dark and glossy against all that warmth. Then the daisies, yellow-centered and a little wild, scattered in like they'd landed there on their own rather than been placed.

By the time she got to the ribbon, her hands knew what they wanted before her head did. Velvet the color of weak tea, doubled with a wider strip of burlap-linen behind it she tied it, looked, untied it, tied it again. She asked him what he thought and what she should call her. He wanted more bows. Bigger bows. Third time, the tails fell just uneven enough to look unplanned. That was the trick nobody told you about: the best part of the whole piece was the one that looked like an accident.

She hung it on the blue door before the glue gun had even cooled, stepped back onto the path, and let herself have thirty seconds of thinking it was good. Then she noticed the gap on the left side where it needed just one more rose.

She always noticed one more thing. That was how she always knew it was their own design.
