The clear boards lets you have a peek at the bees without disturbing them and making them chilly unnecessarily.

I am part of a team of bee keepers that volunteer for RBKA (Reigate beekeepers). We look after an out Apiary on behalf of the club. We requested new hives this year and were lucky to have 8 new hives delivered. They arrived “flat packed” which was a shock and a bit of a challenge. Never one to shy away from a challenge I started with one and ended up building 4.
Getting them back to the Apiary is my next hurdle 🫣🤣
Hopefully we will move the bees over into their new homes once we do our first inspections, we just need the weather to warm up and stay settled before we open the hives up after the winter season.

Spring is around the corner and the bees are beginning to get busy.
Beekeepers have been super busy over the last few months, preparing kit for the new season, cleaning tools, smokers and hives. Bottling honey for sale, preparing wax for making candles.
Making sure the Apiary’s are ready for the very busy months ahead.
Soon we will be doing our first inspections hoping the 🐝 have made it through the wet winter we have had.

Winter jobs are still going on. Cleaning and repairing hives ready for next season, painting new hives and making up frames ready for replacing once the spring gets under way.
Extracting wax from old frames is probably the messiest job of them all. Very time consuming but the wax is precious and I will use it to make some candles in my “spare time”
The bees are doing well so far and I am hopeful for a successful bee keeping season. If we are lucky we may get some spring honey, maybe in May/June (this doesn’t happen very often) but if not the next extraction will be at the end of the summer.
As the weather warms up the queens will start to lay and the numbers of bees will increase. At the height of the season a full hive can have up to between 50,000-60,000 bees 🐝
