Every time you wash a synthetic jacket, it sheds hundreds of thousands of plastic fibres into the water. 🌊

They pass through water treatment plants. End up in the ocean. In the food chain. In human blood, organs, breast milk. Globally, washing synthetic clothes releases the equivalent of 50 billion plastic bottles worth of microfibres into the ocean every year.

The fashion industry has known about this for a long time. It hasn't exactly been front-page news.

The "recycled polyester" stuff being sold as sustainable? Still sheds. Still plastic. Still accumulates.

Wool fibres shed too — but they're natural protein fibres. Same as hair. They biodegrade. They don't build up. Sheep grow a new fleece every year. No petroleum required.

The choice is pretty simple when you look at it that way: clothes that return to nature, or plastic pollution for centuries.

Had a lovely weekend at my very first time at the Kirkcudbright Steampunk Spectacular in Kirkcudbright with TT Creative Designs
The most amazing costumes and so many people despite the weather being more April than June.
The Manx seat pad and rug both sold which was lovely. The seat pad (made using the shearling fleece from Evie) was put to immediate use on a chair whilst the new owner listened to the music 🎶🎵🎶🎵

Your grandfather's wool sweater was heavy, itchy, and smelled like wet sheep if you got it damp.

Your wool today? Completely different.

This is where people get confused. They remember heavy, itchy wool and assume all wool is like that. They don't realise that the wool industry has been innovating for decades — and the stuff being made now barely resembles what hung in grandma's closet.

Modern wool is engineered. Refined. Made to perform in ways that would blow your mind compared to even 20 years ago. Merino wool, for example, is naturally temperature-regulating. It keeps you warm when it's cold, cool when it's hot. It's naturally odour-resistant (you can wear it multiple times without washing). It wicks moisture away. It's breathable. It's durable.

People are using wool for performance gear now — hiking, skiing, running, even sailing. Olympic athletes wear it. Adventurers in extreme conditions trust it.

But most consumers still think it's their grandpa's scratchy sweater.

That's the gap we need to close. Wool didn't stay the same for 10,000 years by being bad at its job. It evolved. It got better. And today's wool is nothing like the wool of the past — it's smarter.

The question isn't whether wool works. It's whether you know how good it's gotten.
