This door required a beaded tongue and groove to match the original design. I knew I could do this by using a euro block for my spindle moulder. The advantage to having a euro block is that you can draw custom profiles, mouldings and joinery, and then have those exact cutters made to produce truly bespoke details.
After a couple of test cuts I was able to get the desired dimensions and shape, which I could run all the pieces through.
The brand new cutters produced such a crisp finish that it barely needed sanding!
As mentioned in my previous post, to fix the braces in place I used the traditional clinching method. This involves tapping a long nail all the way through both pieces, then bending the end to produce a hook which is hammered into the back of the brace. This produces a really tight bond between the two pieces, however the nails are soft enough to allow for wood movement.
Once I applied some wax I was really pleased with how closely I’d been able to match the original doors.
