You want your choice to be unique, to say something about them and sometimes, also about you. Finding something that you know they will love is a wonderful feeling. Designing thoughtful products that make people smile and are worth keeping long after the other birthday cards have been retired to the recycling bin has always been my design goal. ve worked in service design. I love to think about why people buy what they buy and how my designs can be more than ‘just a card’. My work often evokes feelings of nostalgia with subtly retro designs and the odd bit of smart humour. Designs like my list cards allow people to customise the designs enabling them to create thoughtful gestures. My 3D cards are exciting to receive. My style has been described as ‘design-led’, ‘clean and simple yet beautiful’. I’m Kate, I’m based in Edinburgh and started my screenprint and stationery business, Kate and The Ink, in 2013. I aim to create sentiments and messages that you want to send. I started designing cards for the special people in my life and because they loved them, I hoped other people might too.
