A Love Letter To Edinburgh 🧔

Some people call Disneyland the happiest place on earth… for me it’s Edinburgh. A magical city that holds so many memories and will always feel like home. But importantly for you guys also has (what I will argue to anyone) the best food and drink scene! So here are my highlights from my recent visit…

Featuring - a new opening from the team behind ( my favourite pub in the city) that served up some of the best food I’ve had in a long long time. They also highlighted Scottish produce and the foh showed true Scottish hospitality - honestly faultless! Then there was the viral hand pulled noodles from , a true Scottish breakfast from , fun seasonal ice cream from and an incredible set lunch menu from . Not to forget all the great coffee and drinks offerings from 🫠

Genuinely this city has it all - I didn’t even touch base on the museum, scenery and touristy things we did. But trust me when I say it is a city everyone will fall in love with! Full blog post over on Substack (link in my bio šŸ˜‰) please go give it a read if really appreciate itšŸ«¶šŸ»

Exploring London Via Sweet Treats 🧔

London is an amazing city. And yes I say this as someone who lives here and often hates it - the cost, busy rush hour tubes, sense of isolation… but despite all of this nobody can deny how great a place it is. There are so many different areas, all with a unique personality, parks and great food spots to discover. My favourite way to remind myself of this is to have a solo day out exploring an area fuelled by coffee and a sweet treat (I am a pastry chef after all) šŸ˜‰

So I’ve complied a little list of my favourite routes. Based around a sweet treat they will take to through the city’s beautiful parks, independent shops and often ending with a cheeky drink. And with spring finally starting to appear (all be it very slowly) it seemed like the perfect time to share these with you guys because the London sun does make everything 100x better.

The full itineraries are in my latest Substack post (link in my bio) and feature:
- via London Fields/ Hackney
- via Herne Hill/ Brockwell Park
- .london via Clissold Park/ Stoke Newington
- via Regents or St James Park
- via Knightsbridge/ Hyde Park

Within the post I’ve also mentioned a few of my favourite independent shops, pubs and bars to visit whilst on these days out. Including .ldn

Please go give it a wee read and let me know your favourite spots!

Cardamom, Lime and Vanilla Roasted Stone Fruits 🧔

Roasted / baked fruit desserts are one of my favourites in general especially this time of year. But this one has to be my number 1. It’s sweet and sticky but has a lovely tang and warmth from the lime and cardamom 🄵

I should say this recipe is not mine. It’s my mothers. Who is the first to tell you that she is not a baker at all, this was her go to dessert for us when we were growing up and I still love it to this day. Did I also mention it makes a STUNNING breakfast! Recipe in my latest Substack post link in my bio…

8 Months at Claridges Restaurant 🧔

Some photos from a magical 8 months being part of the team.

Of course there were the busy, stressful, not so great moments but these were far far outweighed by the great days, the learning and the fun that comes from being part of a great team.

Special shout out to for being an amazing teacher and one of the best friends anyone could ask for šŸ«¶šŸ» For who I will miss working and laughing with everyday 🄲

Onto the next chapter in pastry šŸ’ŖšŸ»

Porto Food Highlights (Part 1)🧔

More than just tinned sardines (although these were also delicious) …

I recently came back from a little solo trip to Porto filled with LOTS of delicious food! Including traditional dishes, super fresh fish, to lots of port and superbock (literally Portugals answer to tennents that just hits in the sun šŸ˜Ž), wine bars, a very good coffee/ brunch scene and many pastel de natas! Here are some of the highlights and all I’m saying is it’s just as well the city is super hilly šŸ˜‚

šŸ“·1,2&3) This was the best food of the trip and one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in a very very long time! A 100% female team showcasing the amazing fish the city has to offer fusing local, Brazilian and Asian influences. The star for me was the crudo with dashi, herb oil, fish roe, jalapeƱos and kumquat. But I also loved trying a Brazilian dessert unlike anything I’ve had before with cassava cake, caramelised coconut, honey and cheese.

šŸ“·4) For a delicious breakfast! These guys were definitely more focused on coffee (and it was a very very nice coffee) but have a small food menu. The fully loaded aƧai yogurt bowl was the perfect fresh summery breakfastā˜€ļø

šŸ“·5&6) Of course as a pastry chef it was my duty to eat as many pastel de natas as possible whilst there! My favourite spots were and . Perfect creamy filling, super crispy flakey pastry and of course if you’re me lots of cinnamon šŸ”„

šŸ“·7) Something I definitely didn’t expect to find on my trip but I loved this Kombucha shop! I got their flight (only €5 I should add when kombucha is so expensive back home 🄲) which was a super fun alternative to all the drinking I’d been doing and so refreshing on a hot day! The ginger one was stunning!

I’m now realising I’ve rambled on for too long so there needs to be a part 2 for all the other delicious spots… But Porto really is a great city filled with so much amazing food that I’m definitely missing 🄲

My 10/10 London Bakeries 🧔

Anyone who watches my stories (and tbh that probably not many šŸ˜‚) will know I spend the majority of my days off trying out London bakeries. It’s my idea of the perfect day to explore a new area of the city with a coffee and pastry in hand 🄰

I recon I’ve been to about 20+ so far, with a list and ranking system (maybe I need to get a hobby šŸ™ƒ). And whilst many spots have been brilliant and I’d definitely return, only 3 spots have scored a 10/10 so far…

1. Needing no introduction this place was number 1 on my list to visit before I moved and 100% lived up to my hopes. I think I’ve tried over 10 of their bakes (classics and specials) by now and all are pure perfection! I don’t know how they do it but it just hits every time. My favourite of their classic bakes is their cheese, marmite, sesame and spring onion scroll. Ask for it warmed and you’ll be in heaven! Special wise my favourite so far has been their basil, strawberry, mascarpone and honeycomb number!
2. The BEST cookie I have ever had. Period! Oh and it also happened to be vegan. The dark chocolate, soy and sesame cookie is my idea of perfection. But don’t worry they also offer excellent flakey, buttery pastries, sandwiches and delicious bread. Other highlights of mine is their cornbread croissant, rye loaf and their smoked mango iced tea. This spot probably has the highest variety of everywhere on the list and has some gf and vg options.
3. Super fluffy, pillowy buns filled with swirls of delicious unique flavours. have taken cinnamon buns to another level. I have only tried one of their bakes but it was perfection so I had to include it on this list. Their baklava bun with its sweet pistachio filling and rose glaze. As a pastry chef I am in awe of their dough. It is so soft and fluffy but also has a great flavour with some whole grain flour added to complement the sweet fillings.

So that’s it my ā€œperfectā€ London bakeries so far. I can’t wait to return to all of these place and all of the other great London bakeries. Let me know your favourite spot or bake…

Recent London Eats and Drinks 🧔

Feels like all I’ve done the past couple weeks is eat and drink out in… and whilst my bank account and liver are crying all the deliciousness made it 100% worth it! So these are my recent favourites…

1. bar. Legendary for a reason this bar has both immaculate drinks and vibes to match. This time I opted for their ā€œMagnetumā€ which was a mix of Macallan, sherry, Galliano liquor, lemon verbena, pineapple, fennel and lavender bitters. Sounds like strange mix but these guys are geniuses and it all married together to create a delicious fresh slightly sharp and sweet drink 🄰
2. By far the best dim sum I’ve had in china town and great value! My highlight was the XO turnip cake 🄵
3. This spot had been on my list since before I moved to London and it lived up to my hopes. A cheese and carb lovers dream! Paired with some very delicious wines including one of my favourites ā€œlove biteā€ by to make you feel a bit fancy šŸ˜‰
4. A recommendation from that I will definitely be going back to. One of the best matcha lattes I’ve had in London. Just look at the colour šŸ’š
5. stunning room spread on arrival 🄰 Honestly felt like I was living a dream staying here and of course the extra goodies were delicious! Especially the chocolate crest from which will always be a favourite of mine!
6. I now understand why this spot is so hyped and popular! Everything was PACKED with flavour and each dish was super unique. But of course their signature clay pot noodles were the star!

Overall so much delicious food and drinks were spots all completely different but amazing in their own right. London I love your food scene 🄰

London Bakeries February Edition🧔

You guys know my number one hobby since moving to London is visiting bakeries. Can you really blame me though when the city is filled with so many great spots (and I can say it’s market research šŸ˜‚)? So these are my favourite bakeries I visited in February…

1. Famed for their honey butter toast and for good reason! Tbh I was skeptical if this could be worth the hype but it 100% wasšŸ˜. Super light fluffy bread encrusted in a golden, sticky yet crisp honey flavoured exterior. I also tried their sichaun peppercorn pan Suisse which was delicious. I love this spot as it is one of the few bakeries in London that has easy central locations, indoor seating and top quality bakes!
2. Another milk bread based bake; their masala cardamon bun combines Indian flavours, French and Japanese baking techniques. And the result is magic! The best cardamon bun I’ve ever had (and I’ve tried a lot). Dipped in a steaming cup of their house masala chai and you have a winner! Their seasonal rhubarb special was also great🄰
3. .bakery_ A newcomer to the London bakery scene but already one of my favourites. I went mid week and a bit late so it was really only the classics left. However I often think when you do a classic there’s nowhere to hide so it’s a good way to test a bakery. And let’s just say they absolutely nailed it! Super crispy buttery pastry, rich custard filling and juicy raisins. It’s a classic for a reason and I can’t wait to go back to try more! .bakery_ also has a huge seating areašŸ™šŸ».
4. .bakery winner of the last croissant awards I had very high expectations for this spot. The cinnamon roll definitely didn’t disappoint. With its crisp flakey pastry and sticky cinnamon sugar centre. I will say I didn’t love the atmosphere in the cafe. It felt very loud and touristy with QR code service, not very helpful staff and yet still a steep price tag and automatic service charge šŸ™ƒ

So lots of delicious sweet treats that I urge you guys to try! Let me know your favourite London bakes I need to try this month…
