Last week was the Scottish Interior Design Student Showcase of all the brightest new graduates of 2026 at BAaD organised by the wonderful people at Michael Laird Architects

I was absolutely honoured to be invited to be asked to judge their work and hand out prizes to the cream of an impressive crop

I'm familiar with making difficult decisions when judging beautiful interiors but this was next level!

The prize winners were:

I really enjoyed the panel discussion expertly lead by Hazel Pearson of MLA, with Hazel Houliston, Adam Storey & Anna Barr - all of us sharing very openly our different wonky paths to success in the unpredictable world of interior design

Always a joy to see the next wave of interior design talent but
I was absolutely blown away though by the work of the graduates from the amazing furniture design courses:
Furniture Craftsmanship With Design HND and Furniture Restoration HND

If anyone is looking for an AI proof career who loves working with their hands and beautiful materials, this is it!

A church is often far more than a place of worship.

At the heart of Morningside, Morningside Parish Church provides a home for community groups, families, concerts, and vital support services, but now faces a £300,000 repair bill.

To help, fundraiser Kerry Watt has launched the Morningside Umbrella Festival, transforming the church with over 150 colourful umbrellas while bringing the whole community together to raise funds for its future.

A brilliant example of community spirit, creativity, and people coming together for a place that means so much to so many, whatever their personal beliefs ☂️🌈❤️

Sunday SHOTY seven throwback

This home was restored from a virtual ruin to a wonderfully personalised eco home near Kiltarlity

Here are the little moments I noticed that maybe passed you by on the show last year:

Unusual material juxtapositions and sparkling handmade thresholds were just party of what elevated this home to be a SHOTY contender

And the homeowners did all the work themselves!

There's other buildings on the site so I expect they will be added into the mix in coming years, I wish we did return visits like Kevin & George do!!
