Autumn in the gallery…

It’s a beautiful time of year up in the Lakes. With the leaves turning, the views are spectacular, and if you need somewhere to hide from the Autumn showers, Heaton Cooper Studio and Mathilde’s Café are open seven days a week.

We love visits from the local authors we stock!

Justin Worsley, originally from Windemere and author and illustrator of the children’s books, ‘One Fine Day’ and ‘Henry the Artistic Dog’, popped in to say hello and sign some copies of his books a few times over the summer.

His books are firm favourites with some of our younger customers and we totally get why! Look at those illustrations!

‘One Fine Day’ and ‘Henry the Artistic Dog’ are available both in the gallery and on our website.

‘Pillar Rock and Pillar Cove’ by William Heaton Cooper R.I. (1903 - 1995)

A wintry scene, perfect for the changing of the seasons, and a beautiful example of the more wild and desolate side of the Lake District.

This original painting by William Heaton Cooper has recently become available for purchase. You can find it on our website, alongside our other available originals, or you can see it in person at Heaton Cooper Studio.

Born in 1903, today marks William Heaton Cooper’s 123rd birthday.

Son of Alfred Heaton Cooper, William joined him as an influential watercolour landscape artist. He built the Heaton Cooper Studio that still operates as a popular gallery and art shop today.

His admiration of the natural landscape around him is evident through his work, and still loved by many today.
