Colour is a powerful design tool that can make the rooms in your home feel more calm, cheerful, comfortable or dramatic.
Colour makes a tiny room feel larger, or a spacious one feel more intimate, without the time and expense of actually moving walls.
Colour can have a powerful effect on the way we feel when we walk into a room. Certain shades can trigger feelings of warmth and comfort and establish a soothing ambiance, whilst other shades can trigger feelings of anger, sadness and even depression.
Bright colours, such as yellow or orange, can elicit feelings of happiness and positivity, whereas cool colours, such as blue and green, can create a calming and relaxing atmosphere. Texture and pattern can also have an impact on mood; soft fabrics and textures can be soothing, whereas bold patterns can be stimulating.
If you are thinking about redecorating your home to promote a calm, safe, relaxing environment for you and your family then maybe consider some of the colours below:
Pink – A soft and tranquil colour, pink can inspire a calming sense of peace and balance.
Orange – Similar to red, orange is an intense and stimulating colour that can make you feel invigorated.
Yellow – Softer than red and orange, but still sunny and cheerful, yellow can both improve your mood and counteract stress.
Green – Quiet and restful, green is a soothing colour that can invite harmony and diffuse anxiety.
Blue – A highly peaceful colour, blue can be especially helpful for stress management because it can encourage a powerful sense of calm.
Purple – In many cultures, shades of violet represent strength, wisdom and peace. Purple can invoke a tranquil feeling that helps reduce stress.
White – Symbolic of purity and freshness, bright white can inspire mental clarity (on the other hand, dull white can cloud your emotions).
