🌞 When the temperature rises, the importance of good toilet facilities rises too! 🚻
With much of the UK experiencing warmer weather, it is a timely reminder that toilets play a vital role in keeping people comfortable, healthy and hydrated.
When temperatures increase, we are encouraged to drink more fluids to avoid dehydration. Naturally, this means more visits to the toilet.
Increased usage places greater demand on toilet facilities in public spaces, workplaces, visitor attractions, leisure venues and events, making regular cleaning, maintenance and servicing even more important.
Hot weather can also affect toilet environments, increasing the need for good ventilation, hygiene standards and well-stocked facilities to ensure a positive user experience.
Access to clean, safe and well-maintained toilets gives people the confidence to stay hydrated. This is particularly important for older people, those with health conditions, families with young children and anyone spending extended periods away from home.
As temperatures climb, let us remember that toilets are more than a convenience, they are an essential part of public health, wellbeing and inclusion.
β˜€οΈπŸ’§πŸš» In hot weather, staying hydrated is vital. Having confidence that a clean toilet is available nearby makes it easier for everyone to drink the water they need and enjoy the summer safely.

A little reminder from those of us who spend our days championing better toilet facilities: when the heat is on, toilets really do matter! πŸ˜ŠπŸš»β˜€οΈ

What a lovely surprise this morning! πŸ“Ίβœ¨
I received a text to say that the Loo of the Year Awards had appeared once again on Channel 5's Happy Campers: The Caravan Park.
The programme was actually filmed around three years ago and first aired in Spring 2023, but it was great to see it being shown again today. On the episode, Jane and I carried out an unannounced inspection of the campsite's toilet and washroom facilities, assessing and grading them as part of the Loo of the Year Awards programme.
We thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the filming and it is fantastic to have another opportunity to raise awareness of the work we do, highlighting the importance of high-quality washroom facilities across the UK.
Watching it back today also brought a smile to our faces... we certainly looked a little younger then! πŸ˜‚
Did anyone else catch the episode this morning?
If not and you would like a look it is Happy Camper-Caravan Park Series 4 Episode 1 on Channel 5

The future of better public toilet facilities starts with education today!

Just before Easter, we had the pleasure of meeting the Year 3 Loo of the Year Ambassadors at Madley Primary School to discuss how they would like their school toilets to look, feel and function.
Following our visit, we were delighted to receive this thoughtful letter from the pupils, outlining their ideas and aspirations for their toilet facilities.
Their requests were simple but powerful:
⭐ Fun door stickers
⭐ A sturdy sink
⭐ A space that doesn't feel like a typical school toilet
⭐ A happy and welcoming environment for everyone
What impressed us most was the way these young ambassadors had considered not only the appearance of their toilets, but how the facilities make people feel when they use them.
By engaging children in conversations about toilet provision, cleanliness, respect and wellbeing, we are helping to create a generation that understands the importance of good facilities away from home. Education like this gives us hope for the future, not only for better-designed and better-maintained toilets, but also for greater respect for these facilities by the general public.
At the Loo of The Year Awards Ltd, we believe that raising awareness should start early. These pupils are already demonstrating that toilets are about much more than convenience; they are an essential part of creating healthy, inclusive and welcoming environments.
A huge thank you to the Year 3 Loo Ambassadors at Madley Primary School for sharing your ideas with us. Your enthusiasm and honesty show exactly why involving young people in these discussions matters so much.
After all, today's Loo Ambassadors could become tomorrow's designers, managers, cleaners, decision-makers and champions of better public facilities.

"If we teach children the value of good toilet facilities today, we help create communities that will respect and care for them tomorrow." πŸš»πŸ’™

🚹 Men's Health Week 2026 🚹
This week (15th–21st June) marks Men's Health Week, an opportunity to shine a spotlight on men's physical and mental health and encourage men and boys to prioritise their wellbeing, not just this week, but throughout their lives.
In the UK, Men's Health Week concludes on Father's Day, a time when many families come together or take a moment to connect with the men in their lives.
At the Loo of the Year Awards, we recognise that access to clean, safe, accessible, and well-maintained away-from-home washrooms is about much more than convenience. Quality washroom facilities play an important role in supporting both physical and mental wellbeing.
For men living with prostate problems, bladder and bowel conditions, diabetes, incontinence, stoma requirements, or other health conditions, knowing that suitable facilities are available can make a huge difference to their confidence and quality of life. Equally, concerns about finding a toilet when needed can lead to stress, anxiety, social isolation, and a reluctance to travel, work, or take part in everyday activities.
Good washroom provision helps people feel confident, respected, and included. This includes ensuring facilities are hygienic, accessible, and equipped to meet a range of needs. Increasingly, this also means recognising the importance of disposal facilities in male washrooms for incontinence products, stoma supplies, and other personal hygiene items, providing dignity and discretion for those who need them.
At the Loo of the Year Awards, we are proud to champion washroom standards that support the health, wellbeing, dignity, and inclusion of everyone who uses them.
As we mark Men's Health Week, let us continue to encourage open conversations about both physical and mental health and recognise the important role that quality away-from-home washrooms play in helping people live happier, healthier, and more confident lives.
πŸ’™ Because wellbeing is not just about healthcare, it is also about having access to the facilities that allow us to participate fully in life.

🚻 What if your washroom is costing you customers... and you do not even know it?
Most businesses spend thousands perfecting customer experience.
Yet one of the most talked-about parts of any visit is often overlooked.
It is visited by almost everyone.
It is judged in seconds.
And people remember it long after they have left.
The question is...
How does yours measure up?

β€œI did not enter awards to win trophies. I entered them to improve my business."

That might sound strange coming from someone who now co-owns the Loo of the Year Awards, but it is true.
Before my husband Charles and I took over the awards programme, we were entrants ourselves through our luxury mobile toilet business, A Plush Flush.
Like many business owners, we were busy running the day-to-day operation and focused on looking after our customers. Entering an awards programme gave us the opportunity to stop and take stock of what we had achieved over the previous 12 months.
The process encouraged us to review our performance, standards, finances, staff development, policies and procedures. It helped us identify what was working well, what could be improved, and where we wanted the business to be over the next year.
We first became aware of the Loo of the Year Awards after being nominated in the Mobile Toilet category. Following our inspection and grading, we decided to enter again the following year. It was not just about winning an award. It was about benchmarking our business, maintaining high standards, receiving independent feedback and understanding changes within the industry.
We proudly displayed our gradings and awards on our website and marketing materials. The result? We secured work with several blue-chip companies who recognised the value of independent accreditation and quality standards.
Recently, I was listening to Sara Davies and her sister Helen Goddard on their MYB podcast. Sara spoke about an award she won over 20 years ago which led to national press coverage and ultimately helped Dragon's Den discover her and invite her onto the programme.
That really resonated with me because it highlights something many people overlook: you never know where an award entry might lead.
Of course, winning is wonderful. But sometimes the greatest value comes from the reflection, planning, recognition and opportunities that follow.
So, if you have been considering entering an awards programme, do not focus solely on the trophy. Focus on what you might learn about your business along the way.
As someone who works in the toilet industry, I know a thing or two about standards and awards are one of the best ways to measure them! πŸš»πŸ†

One of the real benefits of attending Expos is that the conversations do not end when the event finishes.
Following last week's Scottish Expo, I have been enjoying a number of follow-up 1:2:1 meetings with some of the fantastic people I met there. It is been a great opportunity to learn more about each other's businesses, share experiences, and explore ways we can support and help one another.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of catching up with Ross Cowan and hearing more about his work in customer service excellence training. Ross is passionate about helping businesses create exceptional customer experiences, and it was fascinating to learn about his approach to developing and refining customer service skills. We discovered plenty of common ground between our businesses and shared values around delivering quality and excellence.
I am looking forward to several more 1:2:1 meetings over the coming days before heading off to Chester next week for another expo and another opportunity to meet inspiring business owners and make Loo of The Year Awards Ltd even more visable.
Networking is not just about making connections, it is about building relationships that create opportunities for everyone involved.
