New ( old) tool alert! 😁 A bargain- couldn’t resist!

On the left is a skew chisel- brilliant for cutting parallel sided cylinders, v cuts and smooth shapes but you need to keep it under close control. Slight lapse of attention and it will dig in viciously and ruin your work.

On the right is a spindle gouge which is great for cutting coves, beads and details when used respectfully.

In the middle is my new(old) tool. It’s called a skewchigouge- a sort of mongrel of the other two. I haven’t tried one before..I’ll report back 🤔

A bit of a delay as I have been bumbling around the Broads visiting family…but:

A heartfelt thank you to all of you wThe Little Studio on The Streety turnings from the pop up sale at Little Studio on the Street, Ash last weekend.

🦎Chameleon colours 🦎

This platter is made from beautiful tulipwood. I carved the rim and used a special chameleon paint which looks a rich green and/or purple depending on the light.
Available at The Little Studio on The Street, Ash pop up sale this weekend (2/3/4th May) 10am to 4.30pm each day.

🤪 Crazy grain !!
This is made from oak burr.
A burr is where the wood grows in all directions and is highly prized for furniture, veneers and of course woodturning.
I was lucky enough to purchase this from another turner and thought it would look good as a square dish.

What did I make from this aspen log?
I tried a new idea- A ring keeper box 💍

The grain is beautiful, it reminds me of ripples in the sand.

Somewhere safe to store your rings at night, while in the shower, cooking, gardening, or in my case in the workshop.

I’ve made 2 so far and they will be available at The Little Studio on The Street, Ash pop up sale 2/3/4th May , along with lots of other beautiful handmade work from local makers.
