Helping clients visualise a space at concept stage is an important part of our process.

You can love every material on the table and still find it hard to picture how it all comes together.

We’ve been learning new tools to help bridge that gap. Moodboard to sketch to room. A starting point for discussion and refining before any details are pinned down.

A client review can sometimes say more about what I actually do than any description of my services could.
One client. Three sentences. Three things that matter when you’re trusting someone with your home.

They got us.
The details were right.
And we felt looked after.

That’s what I’m here for.

There is usually a moment in a meeting when the conversation shifts.
From ideas and possibilities… to investment.

If you are planning a renovation, I have pulled together a guide to help you understand how to approach this part of the process with more clarity.

Often at concept stage, we’re not looking for one clear answer straight away.

We’re testing the edges of a direction.

Sometimes that means exploring schemes that are quite close, but do slightly different things.

It’s in that space between them that clients start to notice what really resonates.
What feels comfortable. What feels like them.

And that’s usually the point where things begin to fall into place.

If you’re curious about how we approach projects, you can learn more about the process on the website.

When designing a layout, one of the things I often think about is where the eye will go.

It sounds simple, but it quietly shapes how a home feels to move through.

Even at the early planning stage, when we’re just looking at a floor plan, I’m asking myself a simple question.Where will the eye go?

When you walk through a home, your eye naturally looks for somewhere to settle. A window. A table. A view to the garden beyond.

If those moments are considered early on, rooms start to feel connected rather than separate.

You feel drawn through the house.

Almost like there’s a quiet invitation to keep walking.

Moments like this are rarely accidental. They come from thinking carefully about how spaces relate to one another and what should sit at the centre of the view.

It’s one of those quiet details that makes a space feel right.

Pinterest can be a great starting point.

But it’s only ever part of the story.

During the Define stage of a project, we look at the images you’ve gathered, not to copy them, but to understand the thinking behind them. The patterns. The contradictions. The feeling they represent.

Design becomes real when we move from inspiration to intention. From magazine imagery to real life.
That’s where truly bespoke spaces begin.

Neutrals don’t have to be flat.
And modern doesn’t have to mean stark.

When I’m building a scheme, I’m thinking about texture and contrast. How fabrics sit beside timber. Where pattern can introduce personality without overwhelming the space.

Layered thoughtfully, even a calm palette can feel rich, warm and quietly confident.

How a project unfolds.
From defining what matters, through detailed design, careful delivery and finally bringing everything together on site.

We value our considered process because it gives our clients clarity and confidence, and results in homes that feel personal, intuitive and genuinely supportive of everyday life.

You may have spotted we’ve been having a little brand refresh.

Our new website is now live and brings together our work, our approach, and the way we work with clients. It’s designed to give a clearer sense of what it’s like to work with Plum & Co, and how we shape homes that feel personal, timeless, and grounded in your everyday life.

You’ll find details on our services, how projects are structured, and a growing journal sharing insight into our thinking and inspiration behind the work.
A huge thank you, as always, to everyone who’s supported Plum & Co so far. And if you’re curious, considering a project, or simply want to say hello, we’d love to hear from you. You can now get in touch directly here or through the website.

A quiet moment in the studio today, refining the details for one of our projects as it moves into the final design stages.
This is where concepts start to turn into real decisions. Where materials are tested together, proportions checked, drawings reviewed and each element is carefully refined.

There’s a lot of care in this part of the process. Holding the bigger picture of how we want the finished space to look, while also paying close attention to how it will feel and stand up to daily life for our clients.

The selections we make are never random, or chosen simply because they look good on their own. They’re considered. And that’s what allows projects to move onto site with confidence and clarity.

One of my favourite stages.
