Like so many people, I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of David Hockney, just a month shy of his 89th birthday 🎨

British art has lost one of its true giants. Yet as I reflected on the news, I found myself thinking less about his accolades, and more about the way his work made me feel.

So very sad to hear of the passing of David Hockney.

British art has lost one of its true giants.

I have such fond memories of visiting his exhibition at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris on my birthday two years ago.

His work always has such a unique ability to make me slow down, look more closely, and see the world a little differently. A reminder that there is always beauty to be found if we take the time to notice it.

“Do remember they can’t cancel the spring.” Simple, hopeful words from David that captured his enduring optimism and his gift for finding light, colour and joy, even in the most difficult of times.

I have never sweated so much in my entire life!

London hit 34 degrees, apparently hotter than the Bahamas. There was absolutely no way I was stepping foot on the Tube, I did not want to participate in London's very own slow-cooking experiment. Instead, I navigated my way around the city by bus, which was slightly more bearable, though only just. Every sensible person seemed to be seeking shade.

However, Dame Tracey Emin was calling and Kay must go!

I have never sweated so much in my entire life. London hit 34 degrees this week 🥵 apparently hotter than the Bahamas. However, Tracey Emin was calling and Kay must go!

Thank you for all the lovely birthday messages🙏 It’s becoming a bit of a tradition that I escape on a wee solo trip to avoid all the societal expectations that come with birthdays. It was quite impromptu but that existential storm was brewing ….

Highlights included:
- Tracey Emin’s “Second Life” @ the Tate Modern - the most emotional exhibition I’ve ever attended. Adore Tracey even more.
- Wandering South Bank looking like a sweaty mess.
- Entering a 90s themed bar through a Pepsi vending machine hidden inside a video store.
- Front row seat at Kevin Bridges warm-up show @ Soho Theatre.
- Full David Bowie heaven at the “You’re Not Alone” immersive experience.
- Walking about Camden with some swagger.
- Accidentally ending up at the Masters of the Universe film premiere and seeing Brian May casually walk down the red carpet.
- Romeo & Juliet starring Sadie Sink and Noah Jupe @ Harold Pinter Theatre, which was absolutely outstanding.

A Bespoke Wedding Invitation Project for Two VIPs 🤍

I recently had the incredible honour of designing wedding invitations and ceremony seating cards for dear friends, now happily married as Mr & Mrs Cormack🤵‍♂️👰‍♀️

It was such a rich and rewarding experience, from those early conversations about what they were looking for, to shaping a brief together and translating something deeply personal into design.

The idea stage, if I’m honest, felt very wide at first (cue mild panic!). I explored everything from the 1930s through to the 1950s, it felt like a creative trip through time. But what quickly became clear was their vision: something fun, quirky, family-friendly, and uniquely theirs.

One of the most meaningful parts of the process was the trust they placed in me throughout. It gave me the freedom to really explore creatively, even through moments of the heebie-jeebies (😅) and shape something personal.

A project I’m really chuffed with 🤍

I went undercover with the Gen Zs and attended a Yungblud gig out of curiosity. I left feeling very pleasantly surprised! 🙌

YungBlud’s sold-out, intimate album launch show was held at the impressive new LiveHouse in Dundee, presented by Assai Records

I only ever paint portraits of musicians I genuinely respect and enjoy. I’ve turned down countless commissions because my heart just isn’t in it. I admittedly never thought I’d find myself painting Yungblud, but I’d say I’m wholeheartedly converted after the gig ❤️

I now proudly present my portrait of Dominic Richard Harrison himself, aka Yungblud 🧑‍🎨

Experimenting with ideas for a future piece on a larger scale. Neon colour, lino printing, and fragments of text. 🎨

Mostly experimenting. Mostly making a mess. Sometimes finding something worth keeping.
