Today is World Cancer Day, an international day marked on 4 February to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.
It’s scary that most of us now will know someone who has been diagnosed with cancer ,
More than 420,000 people are diagnosed with cancer each year in the UK. On average someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer at least every 90 seconds. 1 in 2 people born after 1960 will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime - Having grandparents pass with cancer and having both my parents diagnosed with it, I knew I was probably looking at a cancer diagnosis at some point but I didn’t have Breast Cancer on my 2024 bingo card .
This was me this time last year , I used to put a brave face on and post up all my wig photos but the ten days following each cycle were crippling .. swipe for the contrast between the make up and smiles , and how I really felt!
Cancer treatment is brutal but you don’t really have any other choice so you just do it .. I’m not the woman I was before cancer but I’m grateful to still be here a year after this photo was taken.
I’m a community champion for breastcancernow which was literally (and still continues to be ) my lifeline during all this and also is a fantastic source of support for people going through breast cancer diagnosis and treatment . This time last year I planned a face and body art jam which raised £500 towards this incredible charity , it’s nice to be able to give something back x
Remember, check your b***s, bits, go to your gp if you see blood where there shouldn’t be .. don’t explain away symptoms..
