šŸŽ‚ It’s 10 years since I first registered The Monkey Puzzle Tree as a company!

It took another year to create our first fabrics and launch the website.

But I had a clear idea of what I wanted the business to be from the start, and that hasn’t changed.

We’ve always paid our artists a 20% royalty, and made everything locally within 100 miles from our Leeds studio.

It’s been so much harder to run this business than I could ever have imagined!

But along with the tough times have been amazing experiences which have made it all worthwhile.

With Brexit, Covid, a faltering economy and worldwide tensions it hasn’t been the easiest 10 years to start a business!

Here’s to 2036 (gulp!)...

Sometimes we’re lucky enough to find a client who loves everything we’ve done…

This Islington townhouse, designed by with plentiful input from its creative owners, used almost every design we had at the time.

I bumped into our client recently and she told me how much she still loves waking up to our designs, six years on, so nice to hear 🄰

Our latest fabrics have been used in their house in Provence. As a tiny business it’s wonderful to have such support, it means the world to us!

šŸŒž Summer evenings sat round the dinner table…

I love the use of our ā€˜Hit the North’ real cork wallpaper in this dining area in an Amsterdam home.

šŸ†Created in collaboration with 2019, this award winning design is still a best seller for us, bringing unique character to spaces from Texas to Thailand and everywhere in between!

šŸ” Wallpaper espionage!

…The flip side of doing the right thing

In a heart stopping moment last week, I was contacted by one of our suppliers to tell me that someone had tried to buy our wallpaper direct from the factory.

They were posing as one of our collaborating artists!

Since I started our business in 2016 I’ve been completely open about our supply chain.

And as we’re proud of our wonderful suppliers we list each manufacturer of each product on our website.

As seen with the very sad closure of Denby Pottery this month after 217 years, it’s so important to support manufacturing in this country or we will loose it for ever.

I have personal experience of a mill closure and redundancy, and I know how devastating that can be to a community, as well as the loss of skills that are very hard to replace

We manufacture all of our designs in the North of England, within 100 miles of our Leeds based studio.

But what I’ve taken from this is that ourĀ wonderful supplier didn’t take the money, they came to me first to check 🄰

And it’s that relationship that counts for everything.Ā

So our supply chain transparency will remain.
