Love does not always end with a moment. Sometimes it remains—
in an object, in materials, in something that once witnessed closeness.
We often think of love as a trace… something written into wood grain, into fabric, into surfaces that have seen more than we can imagine.
Piotr, the artist behind Lamps With a Story, found a fragment of an old beach screen among discarded objects—things people were throwing away, ready to forget. It was meant to be waste. And yet, something about it asked to be kept.
It wasn’t perfect. It carried the marks of time, small imperfections, a visible past.
Piotr didn’t see rubbish. He saw possibility.
That fragment became part of the Hive on a Broom Stick lamp. It wasn’t polished into newness or stripped of its history. Instead, it was woven into a new form, allowing what it had witnessed to continue—this time, in light.
As he reflects:
“When I look at this piece of beach screen, I can’t help but think it may have witnessed someone’s love. Perhaps behind it two people whispered to each other, sharing a quiet intimacy unseen by anyone else. Materials hold such moments. And when they become part of a lamp, they carry them forward in light.”
Love can be written into objects—into something once almost discarded, yet saved.
Light can carry more than brightness.
It can carry memory.
Isn’t it beautiful?
