Loom in action, what a wonderful sound! The new cloth for blankets and cushion covers is coming along nicely. In a traditional herringbone weave in the glorious, soft Jacob wool. Soon to be off the loom and finished off.

New cloth coming along, from British Jacob sheep wool, soft with a lovely sheen. In natural and hand dyed deep blue.

Inspired by the two rivers flowing from home and the studio. Rivers are powerful, beautiful and a part of the land which needs more care than they're currently given.

The warp is on the loom, in the heddles, through the reed and tied to the apron... now we weave.

A little photo shot today, seeing if an open doorway will offer a nice little nook for photos, along with a salvaged folding wooden table from year ago… and I think I’m happy with the outcome. This is a pattern I woven last year with mixed British new wool along with organic cotton and a linen back, feather insert. I don’t have many left, but they will be on my website soon for sale.

These will not be repeated, so defiantly one of kind.

Using a beautifully soft Jacob yarn, hand dyed in a vibrant blue. The dyeing process for solid colours is time consuming and all conditions needs to be just right. It’s very satifying when it all comes out as one intended. This new colour will be on the loom next to some natural for my new collection of blankets and cushions.

Pre-made warps dyed and ready to be dressed to the loom will also be available.

5 looms rescued from a deceased workshop in Wales, been stood about a decade, slowly degrading, slowly being ruined by mice, roof leaking and drip, drip, drip the damage intensified, the woodworm took over.

These looms are now squeezed into my little studio, my little heaven in Herefordshire. Where they will be brought back to life, to weave again, weave beautiful cloth and have purpose.

These looms will now be the start of weaving workshops for 2027. Life has given me a nudge, some persuasion (which is what I needed) and I will be able to offer lesson once these wonderful looms have had some TLC.

Feeling very thankful to of been able to rescue them and give them a new life.

We have Open Studio this Saturday 13th June - come and see some of my weaving, hand dyed fibre and yarn, also to be joined by guest artist Jeanette Kinsey with her original artwork, prints and cards. Jeanette and I will be in the studio from 10am till 3pm. Sign posted from Leintwardine, Adforton and Knighton, plus we have “what3words” and the address with a map… it couldn’t be easier.

In the other studios are Jude Piper Alisha Davidson and Alice Savery - Artist

Pop along and come and see us, have a cuppa or a coffee and a biscuit if your really nice :)

Getting organised with colour, sample cards and dye colour recipes. Its taken a long time and now to tackle greens and blues and all of their variations.

Dyeing my own yarns can mean so many things, which im hoping to progress to over the coming months. Customisation and bespoke design, along with colour matching. With my colour mixes taking shape, any colour can be altered, creating new and additional shades, which will be added to the collection.

The dyes im using are toxic free acid dyes. They are very colour fast, and do not leach nasty chemicals into water systems, the environment or on you.

Over winter natural dyes will enter the chain of colours, they are a little more tricky, not so colour fast, and do (sadly) have mordants, which requires a little more care when using. However, natural dyes offer mellow and muted tones, which are both soft and earthy.

Also to follow shortly will be cellulose dyes for cotton, linen and lyocell. These dyes are for all plant material, once again, toxic free and colour fast. I used these many years ago when screen printing, and they are just so versatile to use, with bright tones which dont cause any issues to the environment.
