My "Designer Secrets" video last week sparked a fantastic question in the comments from one of my followers!

She wanted to create a beautiful, high-end look with her new curtains, so she ordered them extra-long, but ended up with so much fabric pooling that she had to fold them under themselves to make them work.

It is a classic dilemma. We all want that boutique-hotel feel, but curtain lengths aren't one-size-fits-all. In today's video, I am sharing 3 designer rules for getting your curtain lengths absolutely perfect so you can avoid the guesswork.

We are looking at the crisp "just kissing" rule for modern spaces, how to disguise sloping floors in older houses using a deliberate one-inch break, and the golden rules for pulling off a highly intentional, design-led sill-length curtain.

Drop your window dressing struggles below: how do the curtains sit in your house?

Next up in our Melville Street design challenge: The Boardroom. 🍷✨

The Brief: Create a dramatic, confident, and highly confidential meeting space for a boutique consultancy team.

The Challenge: Historic townhouses have incredible character, but high ceilings and hard surfaces create a total echo chamber. This is not ideal for private client meetings or video calls.

The Design Solution: Total acoustic control, disguised as high-end design.

• The Feature Wall: We’ve layered deep maroon, sculptural acoustic panels over a striking heritage gold wallpaper to absorb sound beautifully while creating a dramatic backdrop.
• The Media Wall: The display screen is fully integrated into custom acoustic panelling, flanked by mechanical easels designed to hold physical client moodboards during pitches.
• The Materials: A rich, textured palette featuring deep walnut, brushed brass details, plush moss green, and structural bouclés to ground the room in warmth.

An atmospheric space where big decisions happen in total privacy.

Click through the gallery to see the sneak peek and the material board!

Stay tuned - next up, we’re stepping out of the boardroom to reveal the concepts for our bespoke tea-prep kitchenette and breakout zone. You won't want to miss it! ✨

Building relationships with the right suppliers is everything in design! ✨

I’ve actually known about Barker Interiors last year, and since they are literally five minutes down the road, I finally popped in to chat about ideas for an upcoming project.

What really drew me to them is how comprehensive they are. When you are managing a project, finding a supplier who can handle the big, structural essentials like kitchens, internal doors, worktops, and flooring all in one place is a total game-changer.

I am completely obsessed with that dark marble and timber shelving display! The attention to detail in their showroom is beautiful, and being able to source these large-scale elements locally is going to make the design process so seamless.

We are discussing how we can collaborate on future client projects, so watch this space!

Reimagining an Edinburgh West End icon. 📐✨

To showcase our approach to commercial design, I’ve taken on a design challenge for a vacant 1,600 sq ft office suite on Melville Street.

The Challenge: The space is currently a blank, clinical corporate canvas (think soul-destroying grid lighting and sterile walls).

The Goal: Transform it into an inspiring, texture-rich studio for a boutique luxury consultancy team. It needs to balance modern commercial functionality with a sophisticated, heritage-led aesthetic that feels distinctly Scottish.

Click through the gallery to see a sneak peek of the wireframe layout and the design concepts behind how I’ve zoned the space to maximise flow and natural light.

Next up, I’ll be sharing the material choices and the final 3D renders. Follow along to see the transformation!

Struggling to make your room layout feel right? You are definitely not alone.

One of the most common mistakes people make when arranging a room is pushing every sofa, armchair, and cabinet flat against the walls. While it feels like you are clearing floor space, it can actually make a room feel boxy, rigid, and surprisingly smaller.

In today's video, I’m sharing 3 designer secrets to help you master your room layout like a professional.

We are talking about how to clear your natural walking pathways, why "floating" your furniture away from the walls creates instant breathing room, and how to correctly anchor the space using your main focal point.

I’ve also included my favourite trick for avoiding buying furniture that is too big for the room; hint: it involves a roll of masking tape!

Which of these rules are you going to try out in your own home? Drop your layout questions or struggles in the comments. I would love to help you solve them.

Promise this is my final post about the Home Show, I swear my account isn’t turning into a trade show fan page! 😅 But I couldn’t wrap things up without mentioning the incredible community spirit both on and off the showroom floor.

A big thank you to David at BOLLOstore for all his help and tech advice behind the scenes with the stand display this week. It completely sorted the setup and was hugely appreciated!

It was also brilliant getting to connect with fellow designers, including a lovely chat with Renee Turner Interiors and getting to meet the wonderful John Amabile at the stand!

Closer to home, a huge thank you to my wonderful personal network, family, and friends who stepped up to support me, keep me fuelled, and cheer me on throughout the entire event. I truly couldn’t have done it without you all.

The talent on display from the surrounding suppliers was unreal. If you are looking for some incredible interior inspiration, you need to check out these fantastic businesses:

Reflecting on an incredible few days at the Ideal Home Show! 🥂✨

What an absolute whirlwind of an experience. From building the DJ Interiors stand completely from scratch to meeting so many lovely new faces, design enthusiasts, and potential clients, it was an unforgettable week.

As a self-taught designer, standing in this space alongside so much industry talent is a massive milestone. I wanted my stand to reflect exactly what DJ Interiors is about: creating thoughtful, deeply textured, and bespoke spaces that tell a story. Whether it is a cosy holiday cottage or a luxury home layout, everything starts with these physical moodboards, tactile fabrics, and careful space planning.

I am still processing the entire experience and cannot wait to share more about the brilliant people I met and the incredible support network that helped make this happen.

For now, thank you so much to everyone who stopped by stand L216 to chat about your upcoming projects or just say hello! If you missed me at the show but are ready to elevate your own space, please just reach out and send me a message directly. Let’s bring your vision to life!

I am officially back from exhibiting at the Ideal Home Show, and while it is all still fresh in my mind, I wanted to share a few insider tips.

Massive exhibition halls are brilliant, but they are also designed to make you wander aimlessly. Within an hour, your feet hurt, you’ve collected fifty generic leaflets, and you can’t remember where that one amazing stand was.

In today's video, I’m breaking down 3 simple designer secrets to help you navigate a trade show like a professional. It is all about protecting your time, keeping your eyes open for the best connections, and having a game plan before you even walk through the doors.

Did any of you make it down to the show this year? I’d love to know what caught your eye.

If you have a friend planning a trip to an upcoming exhibition, tag them below to help them save their sanity!

P.S. Once I’ve recovered and caught up on some sleep, I’ll be doing a full round-up post sharing my exact experience (and the highs and lows) of exhibiting for the first time, so stay tuned for that! 😴🥂

Nerves? High. Adrenaline? Higher. Stand? Ready! 🎉
Putting your work out there is always a bit nerve-wracking, but seeing our vision come to life at the SEC makes every single second of the pre-show panic worth it. A massive shoutout to my incredible setup crew for helping me lift, layer, and style this space to perfection. Come say hello!

Be honest, who here has lived in their house while the builders were in? 🏡🔨

It is one of those things that sounds completely fine in theory ("we'll just camp out in the spare room!"), but within three days of living with plaster dust and eating out of a microwave, reality sets in.

In this week's video, I'm breaking down 3 simple designer secrets to help you survive living on-site with your sanity intact. It’s all about protecting your space, your routine, and your peace of mind.

I’d love to hear your stories. What was the hardest part of living on-site for you, or what got you through it?

If you know someone about to start a building project, tag them or share this to save their sanity!
