The details that get skipped in the planning stage are almost always the ones you notice every day.

The finish matters. So does the flow, the storage, and whether two people living in the same house actually agree on what they want, so before we touch a single material choice, we’re asking the questions that most people don’t think to ask until they are 6 months living into the space and something isn’t working...

We’re crafting every room carefully, focusing on design and utility - and making sure everyone working on the project is on the same page!

Send us a DM if you’re about to start a renovation.

Our Surrey Hills project… wow!

13/05/2026

You loved the last one, so here’s some more insights into our gorgeous Surrey Hills project. This boot room has been an amazing part of the design.

With 3 kids, it was important for the space to be practical with ample storage for the school things, shoes, cleaning products etc as well as of course making it a striking and beautiufl room to be in.

We’re loving how it’s coming together and excited to show you the final result!

The earlier we look, the easier it is to fix. And almost always less expensive too.

Our job is to help blend architecture and design to create a place that you love to live in.

You’ll often hear me talk about the “flow” of a room, because that’s such a key part of building a home that you actually want to live in. We’re often brought in at the point where everything looks correct on paper but something isn’t sitting right, and so if your plans are signed off but your gut is telling you something’s not right - it’s worth a second opinion.

Trust your gut! Link in bio or comment PROJECT and we’ll DM you with the next steps.

The biggest (and most expensive) mistake we see in high-end renovations?

Treating design and architecture as two completely separate things.

Without the architectural expertise, you end up with kitchens that look beautiful but don’t function, seating areas that nobody uses, awkward walkways and areas that feel “off”. Without the luxury design details, it stops feeling like a home.

It’s not just about finishes, furniture, or colour palettes.
It’s about how the space flows, how it feels to move through it, how it supports your day-to-day life.

These decisions need to be made early, not after the build has started, and certainly not once it’s too late (and too expensive) to change, which is why we work at the intersection of both architecture and design.

Reviewing plans.
Challenging layouts.
Refining flow.
Ensuring every decision has both aesthetic and practical purpose.

So when everything comes together, it doesn’t just look exceptional.

If you’re in the early stages of a renovation and something doesn’t quite feel right on your plans, trust that instinct.

If you’d like expert eyes on your renovation or design project, DM or comment PROJECT and we’ll send you the next steps.

A brief insight into how we are optimising space in the bathroom during our Surrey Hills project...

One of the things I’m always looking at in a bathroom is how the space actually feels to use. If you’re too focused on the design, it’s easy to forget that these bathrooms are going to be lived in, which means making space for the “un-luxury” parts (aka, the toilet paper!)

Excited to share more of the behind the process with you 🛁

At the start of a renovation, most people think the challenge will be the build.

It isn’t. It’s the decisions.

Not one or two big ones, but hundreds of small, compounding decisions that all affect each other. Layout, lighting, materials, joinery, storage, suppliers, timelines… all needing to be right, all at the same time.

And without a clear structure, it quickly becomes overwhelming. So what do most people do?

They save more images, they go back and forth or they delay decisions because they’re not 100% sure.

And while sometimes that feels like the “safe” option, it’s usually where projects start to stall.

But this is where having the right guidance changes everything.

Not just someone to make things look beautiful, but someone who understands how all the moving parts fit together.

Who can filter decisions.
Prioritise what actually matters.
And guide you through the process in the right order.

Because a well-designed home isn’t the result of hundreds of random choices. It’s the result of the right decisions, made at the right time, with the right expertise behind them.

If you’ve been stuck in decision mode for longer than you’d like, it’s probably time to change the way you’re approaching it. Comment below a decision you’ve been struggling with and we’ll send you a DM to see how we can help.

The ceiling is having a moment over at our Putney project.

We’ve taken pattern beyond the walls in this space. The walls and ceiling have been adorned with this striking Wisteria design wallpaper for a seamless and immersive finish.

The soft butter yellow tones within the print’s design have been carefully selected to complement the bespoke cabinetry in the space.

The result will be a beautifully cosy space that brings the outside in, creating not just visual appeal but a truly emotive experience from the moment you enter.

Would you be brave enough to wallpaper your ceiling with a bold print?

Let us know in the comments.

This award-winning transformation is one we will never tire of.

This Radlett family home underwent a full renovation.

The ground floor was completely gutted to make way for a truly bespoke kitchen/diner/family room makeover. Turning it into a luxurious space that will play host to many a family gathering, party or cosy night in.

Our clients now enjoy a home thats every bit theirs, with every design element tailored to their exact lifestyle, tastes and needs.

If you’re in the thick of a renovation, it can be hard to imagine it being complete. But this is your proof that your dream home is just around the corner.

If you have a renovation project on the horizon that we can help with, get in touch.

We’d love to chat about your plans.

Find our contact details in our bio and we look forward to hearing from you.

Hello, there have been lots of new followers here recently. A big, warm welcome and thank you for being here. Here’s a little re-introduction…

I am Marina, the founder of Marina Hughes Interiors. The studio was established in 2022 and we have been going from strength to strength since our inception.

I first caught the interiors bug while refurbishing my first home back in 2001. After this, I decided to train in interior design and work for well-known interior studios to experience all aspects of interior design.

Over the last 19 years, I have focused on developing my technical knowledge in the commercial world of international hotels, spas and restaurants stretching from the Middle East to the United States.

I now enjoy applying these skills to our private residential projects too, so my clients can be surrounded by the luxury they desire in their own homes.

There is nothing more satisfying than witnessing a client enjoying the comfort and luxury of the spaces I create for them. It brings me great joy. And that’s why I do what I do.

When I am not in the studio working, you will find me at a reformer pilates class, walking our Dalmatian, Radar, in the countryside or travelling for inspiration.

So there’s a little about me and my business.

Please say hello in the comments. It would be lovely to meet you.
