Here's the experiment from my last post out of the kiln. What do you think? I'm not that excited by the colour; it's a little 'pastel' for me (the 2nd slide shows my usual darker bowl, which always shows up the toasty iron edges beautifully). I am enjoying the pattern quite a bit though - I think I'll have a bit more of a play with some different carvings in the darker finish and see what I think. As always, experiments just tend to throw up more questions! I do love this glaze on this clay though - all those lovely iron speckles.

I have been doing an awful lot of glaze testing over the last few months. I know what I'm looking for now, I just haven't quite found it yet...

Glaze chemistry is something I have previously stayed away from on the whole - the subject seemed so huge and to be honest, a bit scary, plus my work has always been about texture and simple finishes rather than fancy colours so I was happy with knowing enough to be able to create the simple palette that I use in my work.

But I'm really enjoying playing around with some (subtle!) colour and educating myself more deeply on the seemingly endless subject of glaze chemistry - even if each test throws up more questions than answers...

So look out for some (every so slightly) more colourful pieces in the future. Although I can't promise anything anytime soon as during these experiments I've discovered I'm even more particular than I thought I was, but you know, you can't rush these things...
