At its centre is a vivid pinkish-red 1.8ct natural Burmese spinel, framed by twelve bright old mine cut diamonds totalling approximately 3.6cts.

Burma has long been an important source of fine red and pink spinel, prized for their colour and brilliance.

Set in platinum-topped 21K yellow gold.

A late 18th-century Portuguese pale aqua-blue paste solitaire ring, c.1760–1780.

Paste is hand-cut and polished lead glass, often foil-backed to imitate the colour and brilliance of precious gemstones. The finest examples were technically demanding luxury jewels, worn at the highest levels of 18th-century society.

Here, the foil backing gives the cushion-cut stone its cool, seawater-like luminosity.

An 11th–12th century Islamic silver ring, dating to the Seljuk dynasty.

The rectangular bezel is framed with chased arabesque decoration, much of it retaining its dark niello inlay. Rounded bosses sit at each corner, with further nielloed decoration continuing across the pierced shoulders.
