What a treat to visit ‘Tracey Emin: A Second Life’ at Tate Modern ✨

The fangirling really should stop, but Tracey’s work never fails to move me. Her honesty and emotional depth resonate in ways that feel deeply personal.

Filming Harry Weller speaking so elegantly about Tracey’s work made me realise that every Tracey needs a Harry! In his own words: ‘[Tracey] will never make for the sake of making, everything has to be sincere, everything is genuine.’

What’s On: ‘Encounters: Giacometti x Mona Hatoum’ at the Barbican Centre ✨

I visited ‘Encounters’ last week, an exhibition of works by Mona Hatoum and Alberto Giacometti, marking the first time the two artists have been shown together.

‘Remains of the Day’ (2016–18) was one of my favourite works, a ghostly installation of charred wooden furniture recalling the devastation of the atom bomb.

Mona has suggested the work references ‘the aftermath of war, violence or environmental catastrophes taking place around the world today’. 💬

What’s On: ‘Gilbert & George: 21ST CENTURY PICTURES’ at Hayward Gallery ✨

I attended the press preview of ‘21ST CENTURY PICTURES’, an exhibition showcasing pictures made by Gilbert & George over the last 25 years.

The space was transformed with 60 floor-to-ceiling installations, each framed in the artists signature gridded structure.

Gilbert & George were present, strolling through the gallery in their brightly coloured green and orange suits. They often sat side by side on the benches, mirroring the imagery in the works displayed on the walls.

Howardena Pindell’s solo exhibition ‘Off the Grid’ is now open at White Cube Bermondsey! 💫

Howardena’s paintings, sculptures and works on paper explore texture, light and geometric shapes, particularly the circle.

‘The circle came from an experience when I was a child during segregation […] we got chilled root beer in a glass, but at the bottom of our glasses was a red circle. And that meant that was for Black people.’ – Howardena Pindell.

Marking 75 years of New Contemporaries, the works on show offer an overview of urgent lived concerns, interests and social realities.

Themes include the fluctuations and cycles in the natural world, sustainability and decay; boundaries, borders and fragmented memories; the commodification of mindfulness, self-care, pop culture and consumerism.
