Paint colour is usually the first thing people think about when styling a room. It should be one of the last.

Before I even open a paint chart with an interior design client, I ask about light, original features, what’s staying put, how they want the room to feel, and what else you can see from that room in the house.

It’s likely that if you skip these questions you’ll find yourself wanting to repaint in six months’ time.

I go into lots of homes with dark hallways and landings, especially Victorian or Edwardian properties.

Here are three ways to bring in more light:

1. Paint the woodwork a bold colour - spindles, door frames, skirting

2. Keep the walls light to contrast against the dark joinery

3. Add an aspidistra - the Victorian "cast iron plant" that thrived in dark hallways

I visit you to discuss and survey your home, listen to what you need and then produce a bespoke design pack giving you everything required to instruct trades and make the transformation happen.

The overwhelm and decision fatigue is taken away from you because I do the time-consuming research so that you can focus on living well. Your design pack contains moodboards, colour schemes, fabrics, furniture choices and layout plans.
