Today marks five months without my dad.
I didn’t think the date would affect me as much as it has, but today the tears have come easily.
Since he passed away, I’ve done what many people do. I’ve kept moving.
There were children to care for, a business to run, a collection to develop, markets to attend, and life to keep up with.
Life didn’t pause, so neither did I.
And perhaps because a part of me wasn’t quite ready to sit with the reality of it all.
Recently, someone I hadn’t seen since before my dad passed away gave me a hug and offered their condolences.
Such a simple gesture, but it brought everything back.
The memories.
The conversations.
Those final weeks.
Five months feels like a lifetime.
And yet sometimes it feels like yesterday that I was sitting beside him in Sri Lanka, making him laugh, singing old songs together, and helping him get home.
I miss him.
I miss my Appa (dad).
I miss the way he always believed in me.
The quiet confidence he gave me.
The way he somehow always knew how to make things feel better.
I miss him calling my name.
Sometimes I wish I could sit beside his resting place for a little while.
Just to be there. Just to feel close to him.
And even now, there are moments that catch me by surprise.
I’ll glance at the photo of him on my phone and, for a split second, it still doesn’t feel real.
Then comes that familiar ache.
The quiet reminder that he is gone.
Five months later, I’m still learning how to carry that.
I miss him dearly. 🤍
