Celebrating 10 years of Supporting Womxn in Art and working with .
I first met Mashonda in 2016 after the photographer Lucinda Grange introduced us. Lisa had just photographed my work for a solo exhibition, and shortly afterwards Mashonda took a chance on me and exhibited one of my works in her first exhibition in NYC.
A decade later, we’ve exhibited together around the world, shared stages on panel discussions, appeared on radio shows and podcasts, and had countless conversations about art, community, and the importance of creating space for underrepresented voices.
When I first entered the art world, I was surprisingly naïve to the disparities that existed between male and female artists. I even remember participating in one of Mashonda’s early exhibitions and receiving messages from angry men on Instagram who were genuinely shocked that we dared to present an all female show. Looking back, it feels almost unbelievable!
Ten years on, the conversation has shifted dramatically, and that is thanks in no small part to people like Mashonda, who have worked tirelessly to champion women artists and underrepresented voices while bringing people together rather than dividing them.
Thank you for leading with grace, clarity, generosity, and vision. Thank you for all you’ve done for so many artists, myself included.
You are now a cherished friend, and I feel incredibly lucky to know you. Here’s to the next decade darling xx
