We are Oksana and Olexii and we are from Ukraine. Our company is called Light Craft Family. We both worked in an electrical retail business and have export trade experience. We always dreamed of creating our own products. When we became parents, our entrepreneurial ambitions were focussed into products for families and their children.We saw that our vision of sustainable, plastic-free toys, and ho
me accessories was missing from the market. Maybe our dreams to start our own business would have taken much longer had it not been for the war. The war hugely disrupted the economy and left many workshops without any orders and with spare capacity. Through friends, we knew that the local workshop that made wooden tables and other wood-based products was suffering and that many people were facing losing their jobs. We saw an opportunity to work with them and support the local economy. Olexii drew up designs for a range of oak wood nightlights that could be made in the workshop and he set about creating the first prototypes. For Olexii, this was not just a passion project but also a way to use his time productively and stay positive in very difficult circumstances. A few months earlier, Oksana and our daughter Yeva, then only 1.5 years old, left Ukraine for the safety of London. Being separated was very hard for us all but working together on this business idea was a way of keeping the family together. The first 20 bedside lights we designed featured a Ukrainian flag cut into the oak light. We made them for Ukrainian families in the UK who were looking for gifts to express gratitude to the many people who helped and supported them in the UK. The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive and it gave us the confidence that our bedside lights would find a broader market in the UK. Our bedside lights are made from high quality Ukrainian oak wood and are inlaid with warm LED lights that does not disrupt sleep. We work with a local Ukrainian workshop to create patterned wooden templates. We then handcraft the light, by assembling and polishing each one by hand, ensuring the quality of every item. The quality of polished oak wood, ensures that the surface is spill and scratch resistant. They are designed, made and crafted to fill your home with love and light.
