The reconstruction of Madresfield Court in the Victorian Gothic style was begun by the 5th and 6th Earl Beauchamps, who were responsible for the creation of the new house as you see it today.

The carvings in the library are considered to be the major achievement of the Guild of Handicraft based at Chipping Campden. The theme chosen by William Lygon, the 7th Earl Beauchamp, for the decoration of the room was the “Search for Light”.

My pre-launch collection of upholstered furniture evolved in the studio and workshop through close collaboration and experimentation. Sketching, prototyping, and refining allowed each piece to develop at its own pace.

British heritage was the starting point, but the intention was always to reimagine it for contemporary living.

A recent interview with prompted reflections on how growing up in a small rural village during the 1980s and ’90s shaped me. That environment pushed me to rely on imagination and creativity, not just to survive, but to truly thrive.

HADDLEIGH SOFA from OLIVER THORNTON HOME

The Haddleigh Sofa began with a desire to re-imagine one of the most recognisable elements of heritage upholstery; studded detailing. With a clean silhouette and confident lines, the sculpted the arms are broad and reassuringly substantial, curving gently around you, complemented by a deep seat that envelops you in its softly supported sink.

The result of this re-working is a sofa with a commanding presence. Regal, refined, and full of character.

N o 4: Twickenham Library Chair

With hand carved arms and a frame in rich Sapele, the intention for the Twickenham Library Chair was to create a modern day antique. An heirloom piece which could be passed through the generations, just as the inspiration for this chair would have been.

The idea for the Twickenham Library Chair grew from the stories of Country House sports teams which played against local villages and surrounding parishes. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth Centuries, commemorative furniture, plaques, cups and paintings were all created in celebration of such events, all of which inspired this truly exceptional piece of furniture making and upholstery.
