Coffee and sapoti!

Have you ever heard about this fruit? For over 10 years I've been trying to find something like this in London but I only manage to get it when I come back to visit my home city in Brazil. This time I brought the Park Royal Cup with me to try every fruit and every food together with a cup of coffee the right way :) follow to see where else this cup will go next ;)

There is a long list of things that I can think of, but there is one that surprises a lot of people and it also surprises me that it surprises a lot of people 😂

The surprise: dry or harden clay can be “easily” turned back into workable clay!

I also love to make people aware of this so they don’t have to buy new clay and they can. reuse what they already have! If you are wondering, for hardenned clay, wrap it in a damp cloth and than put in a sealed bag (I like those food-related ziplocks). Wait a day and check. If still hard, repeat – make sure the cloth is damp again. Normally, within a couple of days, the clay is ready to be used. For fully dry clay, soak in water by putting it in a bowl and covering with water. That’s it!

Day 2: measuring clay shrinkage!

Once you know the shrinkage of your clay, you can plan your project better! The template generator in my bio can give you the exact dimensions for your pot if you know the shrinkage and your target :)

I’m the video, I make a slab of clay and then cut it into a small tile. To be more precise, I then use a calliper to press a mark of 100 mm in the tile. After the clay dries, I measure it again. Now I know that this air dry clay from shrinks by 5% from the bag to bone dry!

You need to be careful though. If you take that clay and add a lot of water to it while throwing on the wheel, you do need to measure that again. From wheel to bone dry, there is a lot more water to go and then a lot more to shrink. And if you fire it (yes, this clay can be fired), you of course need to account for that too. Just fire your tile, in this case, and measure it again :)

I’m hosting a free pottery workshop on January 3rd and 4th

It’s called One Word

Here’s the idea: you show up with some clay and a quiet couple of hours. By the end, you’ve made a small dish — and carved your word for 2026 into it

Well, not the whole year. Just the first few months. But I’ll explain that better during the workshop :)

The thing is, you don’t need to arrive knowing your word. The clay has a way of drawing it out as you work.

Two dates, same workshop:
📅 Saturday 3rd January — 2pm UK
📅 Sunday 4th January — 2pm UK

2 hours. Online via Google Meet. Free.

No wheel. No kiln. Just air dry clay and your kitchen table.

Link in bio to save your spot 😊
