About MJ McKasiarz
A multi-disciplinary textiles design artist whose research led practice celebrates contemporary, sustainable surface design. At the heart of my work is a love of materials, process, textures, layers, colour, quality and craft. My designs are enhanced by their low environmental impact not compromised by it. Using post-production mill waste, upholstery scraps, recycled papers, tr

ims, threads and second-hand materials, I have developed a sustainable making process that applies embroidery and print techniques to develop surface design that re-imagines waste into new embellished textiles and abstract pieces. Layers of fabrics, paint and scraps, and everything that speaks to me or I can reuse – I called them “Layers of Goodness” are built into my work. Education:
2015 - 2018 The Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow BA (HONS) Design: Textile Design
2014 - 2015 Clyde College, Glasgow

There are many ways to express what lives inside us.
For me, it has always been colour.

Bright. Bold. Unapologetic.

This piece is an explosion of internal happiness — a reminder that even when life feels layered, textured, complicated… there is always energy underneath waiting to rise. The orange flows like movement, like warmth, like resilience. It doesn’t hide. It expands.

Made entirely from recycled and discarded materials, this work carries history within it. What was once overlooked becomes vibrant again. What was once waste becomes presence.

Transformation is powerful like that.

My relationship with social media is a strange one. I probably love it less than I should, but my love for art is much stronger — and that’s why I keep showing up and sharing work that’s close to my heart.

Life takes many turns and doesn’t always go the way we plan, but creativity has always lived in me. Creating art is how I process, ground myself, and keep moving forward.

‘Abundance’ and other works of mine are now available to view on Contemporary Art Curator, who I’m very grateful to be collaborating with. I’d truly love to hear your thoughts.

I made this bucket hat from a pair of old Levi's I found on the street. I painted it with waterproof textile paint and reused most of the labels from the jeans. I added some personal touches to give it a groovy vibe.

I hope you like my transformation.

Hat is available for sale. DM me for details
