Designing a kitchen for a Michelin-trained chef 🍽️

Back in 2020, Hi-Spec partnered with The Water House Project, the social fine-dining concept from chef Gabriel Waterhouse, who left Michelin-starred Galvin La Chapelle to bring an eight-course tasting menu to a home-style setting.

We built a kitchen that had to look as good as any domestic space, but perform like a professional one. With a Minacciolo island, 102-bottle Sub-Zero w**e storage, and a Wolf steam oven and vacuum drawer for precise sous-vide, the kitchen was something to be proud of.

Leighton Gardens is built around a sunken kitchen with a sharp, linear layout 🍃

It reveals itself slowly as you move through the home, not all at once. Bold Avocatus quartzite runs across the worktops and splashback, paired with dark textured melamine cabinetry that grounds the whole scheme.

Grapa milled walnut veneer against soft green cabinetry, a darker, more tactile contrast that gives this kitchen real depth. A light Dekton Limbo worktop steps in to balance it all out, so nothing feels too heavy.

Gaggenau ovens, a Miele venting induction hob, and a Quooker Fusion tap in Patinated Brass finish the story. Black accents on the door frames and hardware tie it together.

The real challenge in this space was maximising functionality without compromising the clean, architectural appearance our clients wanted. Our solution was a concealed walk-through pantry, offering discreet access to a fully equipped utility room, keeping food prep, storage and household tasks out of sight, so the main kitchen stays calm and uncluttered.

Dark Caneté milled veneer tall units with a ribbed texture are paired with matt lacquered cashmere cabinetry, creating contrast without ever feeling heavy. Dekton Rem worktops and splashbacks complete the scheme, while wall-length glass doors let natural light flow through the space.

The dining table at Edith Grove is a standout feature we won’t get bored of talking about. Crafted from natural “Avocatus” Quartzite, its deep green tones and dynamic veining create an immediate focal point against the light-coloured, minimalist kitchen. Paired with built-in banquette seating and a custom sideboard finished with a cashmere glass top, the material brings warmth and richness to the wider scheme.

Lighting was central to this kitchen. Brass accents at the entrance catch and reflect light for a warm, tactile welcome, while thoughtfully integrated drawer lighting reveals contents with a soft, ambient glow. Above, recessed fixtures are strategically positioned to provide uniform illumination, eliminating shadows and highlighting the kitchen’s clean lines.

Paired with a restrained palette of soft greys and crisp whites, and flat-panel cabinetry throughout, the result is a cohesive, minimalist space.

A returning client project, Leighton Gardens is built around a sunken kitchen with a refined linear layout, revealing itself gradually as you move through the home.

Avocatus quartzite forms the focal point across worktops and splashbacks, paired with dark, textured melamine cabinetry that grounds the scheme. Alongside the Euromobil furniture, Miele, Quooker and Siemens appliances were integrated seamlessly into the joinery, ensuring the kitchen performs as well as it looks.

Tucked into Tite Street, Chelsea, this kitchen proves compact doesn’t mean compromise.

Our team were briefed on an open-plan space with a tight footprint, a mezzanine overhead, and an appliance list to accommodate. Every centimetre had to earn its place.

Our solution was to handcraft cabinetry in smoked oak veneer, warmed by antique brass detailing and topped with a Dekton Somnia worktop for durability that matches the depth of the timber. Siemens appliances and a Falmec extraction system integrate seamlessly into the joinery, while layered spotlighting stops the dark palette from ever feeling heavy.
