I need to find time to get back to wood carving at some point.

Hello everyone. I’ve been very quiet on here and on my Etsy store for quite a while now. The reason is that over the last 12 months I have had a few very bad allergic reactions to the sawdust of some of the wood I have been carving… I’ll spare you the pictures, but essentially it causes me profuse itching and a swollen face for a couple of weeks. If you have bought a pendant from me, please don’t be concerned. The reaction is caused by dust from the wood only. Handling the finished product is fine.

Anyway, the result is that I am very wary of working with wood again at the moment. I do plan to start again in the new year, but I will probably be sticking to native and European woods only.

I do have a large supply of Rowan wood that I know a lot of you like (so do I)… and I am not allergic to that particular wood, which I’m very pleased about 🙂 So I’ll be making full use of that in the new year 🙂

In the meantime, here is a picture of an Echidna I took while on holiday in Australia recently (appropriately at Point Nepean Quarantine Station😃)🦘🇦🇺

I was gifted a couple of Rowan logs from a tree that came down in the storms last year. (Thank you Tim) Rowan wood is not readily available commercially, So while it’s always sad when we lose a tree, I will endeavour to pay tribute to it by making many beautiful things from its wood.

I don’t have an electric saw big enough to cut this into useable pieces, so I’ll be spending the day with a hand saw and several cups of coffee… wish me luck 🤪
