Some Big Fat News…

We are pleased to announce the acquisition of some original slip casting moulds for 1960s lamp base designs from a company in Stoke-on-Trent.

This acquisition will enable us to reissue these designs with updated contemporary glazes and finishing techniques, aiming for a release in 2026. Give us a follow or sign up to our newsletter on our website if you want to follow along our development of these lamp bases.

A few of the moulds came with bisque-fired models, so we already know what they look like. But some didn’t, so it’s going to be a bit of a surprise when we finally cast them.

It was by complete chance I found these for sale on Facebook and it is very exciting as we have for many years made new lampshades for customers with old West German Fat Lava Lamps, but I must admit also slightly confusing, as I have the lamp base front left, it is glazed in Fat Lava style, it is identical, I thought they were suppose to be West German and not made in a Middle England Pottery?
Of course they are now going to be Lancashire made.

For those who missed it, we were showcasing our new Lancashire Heritage range of lampshades made with fabric woven in Lancashire at Manchester last weekend - the new fluted designs and the hairy selvedge shades were most talked about. Not that we are biased but we loved all of them :)

NEWS: The UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) Innovation and Productivity grant scheme is still open and Pendle Borough Council is encouraging businesses to apply.

Feature Lighting based in Northlight, Brierfield, which designs and manufactures bespoke lampshades received a grant for £18,000 towards a state-of-the-art cutting machine.

This is our new base cloth fabric woven right here in Lancashire - We love it just as it is, it makes fabulous lampshades : Fresh, simple & illuminates well. This is a white cotton-linen mix with just a slight inherent slub due to the variance in natural materials - But…
We are going to love it even more when it has our new designs printed on it. We are even getting it printed in Lancashire too - Bring on the patterns!

We have a few of our handmade lampshades on display in the pop up in Spindles shopping centre until the end of the month - along with some other Oldham based businesses. and support local businesses.

Since it’s I thought I’d post a photo of some of our small lampshades - we actually make large lampshades too - and all the sizes in between. It’s our penultimate day in Cheadle where you can support small businesses just like ours and shop small this Christmas - and whenever possible I hope you try to shop small on every other day of the year 👍🏻
