We've done a video about the early days of the Meissen porcelain factory, which produced this stunning, handprints and gilded, very early Meissen coffee cup, dating from about 1735. That such an extraordinary piece could've been made so early in the 18th century is, we think, staggering. We hope you like this post and the two videos that will accompany it. The first of those videos has been posted today and the other will follow soon. See this piece on our website (periodceramicsand antiques.org) and on our eBay site.

A stunning, diminutive, coffee bowl, beautifully painted with Meissen-style kauffahrtei harbour scenes, c1760. Designed for the Turkish market (about 120,000 Vienna pieces went to Turkey annually, by the commencement of the final quarter of the 18th century), this is an unusual variation on the more commonplace abstract decoration.

Robert Bloor of Derby.
We have just written an article about Bloor, which you can see in our blog on our website: http://www.periodceramicsandantiques.org.

Robert Bloor owned the Derby works until 1846, although from 1828 he was in a lunatic asylum! There is lots of controversy about whether he was good or bad for Derby. We think there is only one answer. If he is a name you are familiar with (or, perhaps, even not!), you might find the article interesting. Certainly, his porcelain, a piece of which we illustrate above, was often spectacular.
